At the end of the birth plan meeting, they leave you alone in the room. 💙

No agenda for those few minutes. You can pray. You can sit quietly. You can close your eyes and walk yourself through what it might feel like to be here when it counts. Where the tub is. What the light looks like. What you want to reach for first.

The reason isn't ceremonial. It's neurological. The primal parts of the brain that take over during labor respond to familiarity. A space that feels known feels safe. A space that feels safe opens up instead of closes down.

So by the time you come back in labor, some part of you already knows this place.

We live inside a culture that has spent decades teaching people to measure their worth by the number on the scale. So when you step on it here, the goal is not to evaluate you. It's to make sure you're gaining what you need, that nothing is quietly going sideways, that your body is doing what it should be doing at this stage.

What we actually care about more than the number is what you've been eating. Nutrition is where midwifery care spends real time, because the links between what you put in your body and how you feel, physically and mentally, are not small. The scale is a data point. You are not.

We’re thrilled to announce that The California Birth Center is now contracted and in-network with Anthem Blue Cross, effective August 15, 2026!

This partnership makes our personalized, midwifery-led birth center care accessible to even more families in our community.

From the baby's side of things, birth is a journey. A big, disorienting, all-at-once kind of journey. And when it's done, there is one place their whole system is wired to go. 💙

Skin to skin with mom is not just warm. It regulates their temperature, steadies their breathing, settles their heart rate. The familiar smell, the familiar sound, the familiar heartbeat on the other side of that chest wall they've been listening to for months.

But it goes beyond the physical. Neurologically, emotionally, in whatever way you want to name what a newborn carries into the world with them, the recalibration happens best right there. In the place that has always been home.

Although there will always be the unexpected, this class gives families a solid foundation to help them navigate the early weeks.

💙 This class is taught by experienced mother of 3, Megan Norgaard.

💙 Class is free for CBC clients, $25 per family for guests.

Fresh Costco run, fully stocked fridge, snack bar loaded up front. 💙 This is what it looks like when a birth center actually thinks about the people walking through the door.

Bagels, cream cheese, eggs, coconut water, sparkling water, applesauce packs, beef sticks, gluten free options, bacon options. Cold waters up front. Chewy bars within reach. If you show up hungry, which, you're pregnant, of course you might, there is something here for you.

And when you're in labor? Same thing. You eat. Your family eats. Because a birth center that actually cares about your experience knows that nobody does their best work running on empty.
