Stopped by the office over the long weekend to see how our office expansion is coming along.

Bigger is not always better in medicine but we've had two great physicians join our practice in the last two years. It's been a joy to work alongside other physicians again but now it's a bit crowded on the days we're all in the office seeing patients so we need more space.

While there's some noise and disruption right now, we'll soon have the right space for 3 or 4 physicians to see patients. Sharing the fixed costs of an independent practice across more of us is how we grow without losing what makes it personal.

Dropping fee for service for regular membership payments can save primary care.
Direct payment is best but this also works with employers, charities and, now, even insurers (Mending Health Insurance).

A video explainer about why patients in direct primary care end up loving their doctors.

More misinformation that kills.

Babies were found with dead brain tissue similar to what follows cancer and the kind of bleeding seen after a stroke.

Their autopsies all came to the same conclusion: Their deaths could have been prevented with the long-standard vitamin K shot.

This is interesting. Two DPC physicians speaking and two of the leaders of the PC4AA group (Micheal and Gabriel Fine) ran Health Access Rhode Island, the first Direct Primary Care (DPC) organization in New England.

At a time when more physicians are rethinking how care is delivered, Kenneth Qiu, MD is part of a growing movement exploring direct primary care (DPC) as a path forward.⏩

His work, featured by the American Academy of Family Physicians, highlights how physicians can build patient-centered, relationship-driven practices straight out of residency, improving access and continuity of care outside traditional insurance models.

We’re excited to have Dr. Qiu join us as a tabletop discussion leader alongside Dr. Sara Pastoor, Head of Primary Care Advancement at Elation Health, at PC4AA’s first National Summit in Cambridge on May 20.

More effective and shorter lead up time allowing better matching to circulating flu strains!
Now we have to pray that clown RFK Jr. doesn't block it.

An mRNA-based flu shot could make a huge difference in flu prevention, allowing scientists to pick a better strain match.

The water is still very cold, both fresh and salt. Wear a life jacket but also wear a dry suit.
Dry suits are expensive but not as much as Search And Rescue (SAR) or funerals.

KAYAKING FATALITY - PENOBSCOT BAY, MAINE
Family members saw Jeffrery Eaton, 55, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, capsize around 10:30am, shortly after launching his kayak from the beach at Wiegand Place on Little Deer Isle, which is on Penobscot Bay, Maine. He wasn't wearing a PFD (lifejacket), wetsuit or drysuit. Water temperature was a brutal 43F (6C).

His death is consistent with sudden drowning due to cold shock - which causes an immediate loss of breathing control. A sudden cold water drowning like this happens when the person gasps under water and instantly drowns, or else struggles briefly on the surface before experiencing swimming failure and sudden drowning.

He likely knew nothing about the lethal nature of cold water or the huge risk he was taking. Just devastating for his family and friends.

A new study shows the mechanisms of how coffee modifies the microbiome, reduces inflammation, and influences mood. Even decaf has its perks.
