The water is still very cold, both fresh and salt. Wear a life jacket but also wear a dry suit.
Dry suits are expensive but not as much as Search And Rescue (SAR) or funerals.

KAYAKING FATALITY - PENOBSCOT BAY, MAINE
Family members saw Jeffrery Eaton, 55, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, capsize around 10:30am, shortly after launching his kayak from the beach at Wiegand Place on Little Deer Isle, which is on Penobscot Bay, Maine. He wasn't wearing a PFD (lifejacket), wetsuit or drysuit. Water temperature was a brutal 43F (6C).
His death is consistent with sudden drowning due to cold shock - which causes an immediate loss of breathing control. A sudden cold water drowning like this happens when the person gasps under water and instantly drowns, or else struggles briefly on the surface before experiencing swimming failure and sudden drowning.
He likely knew nothing about the lethal nature of cold water or the huge risk he was taking. Just devastating for his family and friends.
