Protect your pup while out and about this summer! ☀️

Hot weather can be tough on your pet's paws. Keep an eye out for the signs and symptoms of paw pad burns, and take a few simple precautions to help prevent them.

Symptoms of pad burns:
• Refusing to walk or limping
• Redness or discoloration
• Excessive licking or biting paws
• Crying or whining when walking or touched
• Visible blisters or extreme redness
• Missing parts of the pads

Ways to prevent pad burns:
• Walk during cooler hours: Early morning or late evening walks are safer during hot weather.
• Avoid walking your dog on black asphalt
• Walk your dog on dirt or grass paths instead
• Test the pavement: Place your hand or bare foot on the pavement for 7 seconds. If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for your dog
• Use protective paw wear

• Create a safe space — a quiet, cozy spot they can retreat to
• Use calming sounds — white noise, fans, or soft music
• Exercise beforehand — a tired dog is a calmer dog
• Try anxiety aids — wraps, pheromones, or calming chews
• Offer distractions — puzzle toys or treats
• Talk to your vet — for severe anxiety

• Bring water on the go: regular water breaks keep pets comfortable during outings
• Watch their energy levels: heat can wear pets down faster than you'd expect
• Watch the snacks: cookout food and extra treats can lead to upset stomachs
