Charles E. Smith Life Communities

Charles E. Smith Life Communities Charles E. Smith Life Communities offers six senior living options in the Washington, DC area. More than 1,000 seniors call Charles E.

Smith Life communities home. In a variety of living options, they find independence, compassionate care and outstanding rehabilitation. Charitable donations support quality care, help us transform our care environment through new construction and renewal of existing buildings, and enhance our endowment for a secure future. Contributions help us bridge the gap between public reimbursements for Medicaid residents and the actual cost of care, and help fund growth in our programs and services.

The blowing of the shofar calls our attention to God's ruling power in the universe. It is among the many meaningful traditions residents will experience during services held on our campus throughout the High Holidays.

As we prepare to welcome the new year together, we wish our community L'Shanah Tovah.

May you and your loved ones have a meaningful holiday and a new year filled with joy and good health.

For more than two years, eighth grader Emmet Miserendino has spent Sunday mornings at Revitz House playing chess with residents Ron Sigelman and Jerry Jacobson. Emmet wanted to make a difference in the lives of older adults and honor his grandmother, who lives too far for weekly visits. Now these visits have grown into a friendship with plenty of conversation about sports and life sprinkled between chess strategy.

Emmet, Ron and Jerry's connection was featured in Washington Jewish Week.

Research strongly suggests that spending time with animals reduces stress and promotes positive feelings. During a recent pet therapy visit from five Rottweiler puppies, residents and associates held, pet, and tossed toys to the puppies. They also enjoyed just watching them play.

Pet therapy visits are a regular part of our recreational therapy programming, and one of the many ways our team helps keep residents active and engaged.

Thank you Puppy Sphere for spending the afternoon with us!

There's always joy in trying something new.

That's what residents of Hebrew Home of Greater Washington experienced last week when they made acai bowls in our teaching kitchen. Chefs from our culinary team demonstrated this simple, healthy and delicious recipe residents can make on their own, no heat required. To round out the experience, our team of dietitians shared interesting information about the ingredients.

Thank you to our dining team for this engaging, hands-on experience!

It isn't every day that associates from across our 38-acre campus have the chance to gather in one place, but CESLC's Family & Friends Day made it happen 🎉! What a treat to open our doors to friends and loved ones for an afternoon of great food, music, interactive games, giveaways and more.

Thank you to our HR team for making this event possible, and especially for acknowledging the role our loved ones play in our success - and to our dining team for the wonderful food.

This event wouldn't have been possible without the support of an outstanding group of vendors:
Any Excuse For A Party (bubble, glitter tattoo, airbrush and balloon artists; bounce house; and carnival games), Bree Health, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, C.Love2design, LLC (caricatures), Farmyard Friends: On The Move (petting zoo and pony rides), FX WELL, Kona Ice, Lattimore's Funnel Cakes, JODON Visuals, and Wellness Concepts Inc.

Here's a look at a selection of our favorite shots from the day 📸

When someone you love is living with dementia, the right support can help create moments of trust, comfort and connection.

One article in the latest issue of Full Circle magazine explores how we are adopting Teepa Snow's Positive Approach to Care®, and examines how understanding brain change can help families and care partners.

At CESLC, we support individuals living with dementia across our campus and in the greater community through:

✅ Cohen-Rosen House: Dedicated memory support in a secure, relationship-centered assisted living residence.
✅ Hebrew Home of Greater Washington: Post-acute rehabilitation and long-term care support for individuals with advanced memory care needs.
✅ SmithLife® Homecare: Dementia and Alzheimer’s care at home, respite care for family care partners, personal care, companion services and support with activities of daily living.
✅ Hirsh Health Center: Senior-focused primary care centering the healthcare needs of older adults, including memory concerns, cognitive changes and chronic disease management.
