The sounds of jazz filled The Village at Rockville this week during Open Mic Night, featuring talented musician Seth Kibel Music and pianist Sean!

Residents enjoyed an engaging afternoon of music, stories and history as Seth and Sean shared the background behind each jazz standard they performed. From the clarinet and flute to the saxophone, Seth showcased a variety of instruments, bringing different jazz styles and sounds to life while educating residents about the rich history of the genre.

Open Mic Night is one of our favorite twice-monthly programs, offering residents the opportunity to enjoy live entertainment, discover new topics and connect through educational and cultural experiences.

Residents learned about the rich history and origins of this traditional American folk dance before trying out a few moves themselves. Known for its upbeat music, engaging patterns and welcoming spirit, contra dancing brought plenty of smiles and laughter as participants joined the fun.

Cheers to International Month!

This month, our Thursday happy hours are taking residents on a flavorful journey around the world, with each week dedicated to a different continent.

We kicked things off with a Taste of Asia celebration, where residents gathered to enjoy great conversation, a snack and half-off specialty cocktails. Together, we explored the richness of Asian cultures and talked about the many ways familiar foods can take on unique flavors across the continent — including how curry can look and taste completely different from country to country, from Japanese curry to Indian curry and beyond.

It was a wonderful way to learn from one another, share experiences and celebrate the diversity of traditions, flavors and stories that connect us around the world.
