Pregnant people hear some wild things.
And honestly? Some of it is not okay.

Here are some comments we wish people would stop saying to pregnant people:

• “Wow, you’re huge.”
• “Are you sure there’s only one baby?”
• “You look exhausted.”
• “You’re eating THAT?”
• “You’re too small.”
• “Better sleep now while you can.”
• “Just wait, it gets worse.”
• “Was this planned?”
• “You’ll definitely want the epidural.”
• “Natural birth is the only real birth.”
• “A C-section is the easy way out.”
• “You’re too old.”
• “You’re too young.”
• “Enjoy your freedom while it lasts.”
• “Don’t get too attached to your birth plan.”
• “When are you losing the baby weight?”

Pregnancy is not an open invitation for criticism, fear, body comments, or unsolicited advice.

What pregnant people actually need is support, respect, autonomy, and compassion.

Motherhood is not just a role. It is a daily act of love, strength, and care. Whether this is your first Mother’s Day or one of many, you matter more than you may ever realize.

We see the way you shut up your family. We see the patients, the learning, the worry, and the joy. We see the sacrifices that often go unnoticed. And we see the deep connection you continue to build with your children.

It was an honor to support you during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Being invited into your journey is something we never take lightly.

The hill I will die on as your doula:

Your voice matters.

Not sometimes. Not only when it is convenient. Always.

Pregnancy, birth, and postpartum are not times when your autonomy gets handed over to someone else. You are not just a patient. You are a person making decisions about your body and your baby.

My role is not to speak for you. My role is to make sure you are heard.

That means helping you understand your options.
That means slowing things down when decisions feel rushed.
That means reminding you that consent is not optional.

Research shows that continuous support, including doulas, improves outcomes and increases satisfaction with the birth experience. One of the biggest reasons is advocacy. When people feel informed and supported, they make choices that align with their values.
