Leadership update for the ASC community:

Todd Currier, CASC, CEO and administrator of Bend Surgery Center, has been elected board president of the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association (ASCA).

Currier will serve a two-year term and says ASCA will remain focused on advocacy, education, benchmarking resources, and helping ASCs navigate emerging challenges.

Delaying hip fracture surgery for older adults by more than 48 hours can significantly increase the risk of complications, longer hospital stays, and even death.

Maryland has become the 21st state to require surgical smoke evacuation in its ORs. The new law, signed by Gov. Wes Moore, takes effect in 2028 and reflects growing efforts to protect patients and perioperative teams from the risks of surgical smoke exposure.
