"Hey guys, Brandon’s Back!

It’s been almost three years since his story was last shared, and so many neat and exciting new updates are happening in his life! Brandon is turning 11 on Halloween! He has found a new love of riding four-wheelers. Also, he had a little scare last year and was in the hospital for a few days. Finally, he enrolled in a brand-new school specialized in autism called 'Beyond the Spectrum'; this was done to help him meet his goals.

For this year’s birthday, he has decided to be Mario. He loves Super Mario Bros! Brandon has never really been a fan of masks, so we have tried to find costumes to meet his sensory needs. Brandon is not a fan of loud noises but makes an exception for 4-wheeler family fun days! Something about the speed of the 4-wheeler and its vibration gives him a sensory overload but in a good way.

Last year, Brandon had a scare with his IBS that put him in the hospital for a couple of days. This was very scary for him (his brother and I were scared, too), but he was brave, and within a few days, he was back to his usual self! We learned very quickly that the food he takes in plays a significant role in how it comes out. Brandon is a very picky eater and only eats a few things (chicken nuggets, pizza, and spaghetti). He also loves salad. This, however, was not enough of a balanced meal, so probiotics were added to his daily routine and helped a lot.

Finally, Brandon has a new school, 'Beyond the Spectrum Institute.' This is the first of its kind with new technology and even a robot! They have a sensory room that is so cool you must see it to believe it. This private school is challenging yet adapted to Brandon’s wants and needs.

This school is a significant accomplishment for Brandon. Only 50 students were accepted to the school, and he was one of them. The principal hugely supports emotional support for the students in school and at home. This school is very much needed in our community. Many services in the area have long waiting lines or specific requirements that, if not met, cannot help."

The DTaP and Tdap vaccines both protect against three bacterial infections: diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis, whereas the Td vaccine only protects against diphtheria and tetanus. In addition, the vaccines vary in terms of who should receive them and the quantities of vaccine proteins they contain:

DTaP: The DTaP vaccine is given to infants and young children in a series of five shots ─ at 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 15 to 18 months, and again at 4 to 6 years of age.

Tdap: The Tdap vaccine is different from the DTaP vaccine because it contains lesser quantities of diphtheria and pertussis proteins. For this reason, Tdap is much less likely than DTaP to cause side effects such as pain, redness and tenderness in adolescents and adults.

The Tdap vaccine is recommended for most people 11 years and older who have not previously received it. People due for a tetanus booster and those with a wound that warrants tetanus vaccination can get Tdap or Td vaccine.

Td: The Td vaccine is the one people commonly think of when they think of getting their tetanus booster. Like Tdap, it contains lesser quantities of diphtheria protein to reduce the occurrence of side effects in adults. Adults should get a dose of Tdap or Td every 10 years as well as if they have a wound that warrants tetanus vaccination.

RSV is one of the most common respiratory infections to cause hospitalization of infants. About 7 of every 10 children will be infected by 1 year of age, and almost all will be infected by 2 years of age. Babies between 6 weeks and 6 months of age are the most likely to be hospitalized. Between 100 and 300 children die each year from RSV and its complications. In children younger than 5 years of age, RSV leads to more than 2 million outpatient visits and between 58,000 and 80,000 hospitalizations.

“My name is Lorenzo Jackson, and I am about to enter my college freshman year at Alcorn State University. This is my journey with autism.

My journey has not been easy, particularly because it includes the experience of being bullied. It has also led to isolation when others fail to understand or appreciate my lack of social skills. From 3rd to 12th grade, I was bullied because of how I seemed to others, because I did not speak much. I experienced many new things in my life, both good and terrible. I have always been intelligent; it only took my mother to tell me that. The bullying continues, but I always smile and remain positive since I have my family to support me. I appreciate and love my family.

My mother is a woman who brings happiness to many people, including me. She constantly encouraged me to do great in school, particularly in subjects I struggled with, such as math. My sister would protect me from the kids in our neighborhood who would push me off my little bicycle. My father was a hardworking truck driver, and he passed away in 2020 before a big football game. I have not been the same because I miss him. I plan to major in agriculture. I am currently interning at Adobe Ranch in Mississippi. I had a snake as my support animal for six years. I also have a bearded dragon. I love all animals, and I want to study animal science and pre-vet science because I want to build a career that will last for the next 45 years. In the future, I will be able to run a successful farm operation.
In addition, I have a bearded dragon, and I visit my large family. They all live around the country, and they are avid hunters and engage in hog sales.

In middle school, I started playing football. In high school, during my first year, I began to improve and become stronger. My head coach informed me that I would be playing varsity football. Throughout my seven years of football, I have improved my social skills by getting to know people, from teammates to other players in the game, thanks to the energy I brought to the field. Football has taught me how to solve problems and think swiftly without overthinking.”
