Fall sports season is almost here, and so is the "it only hurts a little" phase. Every year we see the same thing. A kid tweaks something in week one, plays through it, and by October it's a real injury instead of a small one.

If your athlete is limping, favoring a side, or telling you it only hurts sometimes, get it looked at. Early is almost always the cheaper, shorter fix.

There's a reason patients walk out of Dr. Parekh's office in a better mood than they walked in. He treats the person in front of him like a person, not the next thing on the schedule.

When a rotator cuff tear gets bad enough, a standard repair isn't always the answer. That was the heart of the talk Dr. Aldrich gave to a room of other physicians at Texas Health, walking through shoulder pain and the harder cases where the usual fix won't hold.
The short version for the rest of us: not every shoulder gets treated the same way. Smaller tears can often be handled arthroscopically, through a few tiny incisions and a quicker recovery. The bigger, more stubborn ones, or the ones where a previous repair didn't hold, sometimes call for a reverse total shoulder replacement. It sounds intense, but it gives a lot of people their arm back when nothing else has worked.
The thing he kept circling back to is that the right call depends entirely on your shoulder, not a one size fits all answer. That's the same thinking he brings to every patient who walks in with a shoulder that just won't cooperate.
