President Trump signed an executive order this week regarding childhood vaccinations. For decades, the measles, mumps and rubella vaccines have been administered as one, combination vaccination. There are no scientific data to indicate that administering the measles, mumps and rubella vaccines as three separate injections offers any benefit to patients. To the contrary, separate administration would add to patient pain and parent cost.

We will continue to follow the guidance of medical experts and the American Academy of Pediatrics. Our vaccination schedule and our vaccination policy have not changed.

๐ŸŽ‰ Celebrating 25 Years! ๐ŸŽ‰

We are thrilled to celebrate Dr. Schwab's 25th anniversary at Rocky Hill Pediatrics!

What makes this milestone truly special isn't the number of yearsโ€”it's the relationships built along the way. From those very first newborn visits to watching patients grow into parents themselves, Dr. Schwab has been part of so many highlights, big and small.

Thank you to all the families who have trusted Dr. Schwab with their children's care over the years. Your support and confidence have made these 25 years so meaningful.

๐Ÿฆ‹ Please help us congratulate Dr. Schwab on this wonderful milestone! If you have a favorite memory or message to share, we'd love to read it in the comments.

A newly published The New York Times story puts a spotlight on the importance of the vitamin k shot for babies.

The article shares the experiences of pediatricians who have cared for babies with vitamin k deficiency bleeding - a rare but potentially life-threatening condition that can largely be prevented with a single shot given at birth.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that all newborns receive their vitamin k shot shortly after birth. Swipe through for key takeaways from the story and learn why pediatricians continue to recommend this important part of newborn care.

๐Ÿ“šโ˜€๏ธ Summer is the perfect season to grow a love of reading! โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ“š

Just 15โ€“20 minutes of reading each day can make a big difference. For younger children, reading together allows for valuable bonding time and helps develop early literacy skills. For older kids, independent reading builds confidence, vocabulary, and a lifelong love of learning.

This summer, try:
๐Ÿ“– Reading before bedtime
๐ŸŒณ Taking books outside to the park or beach
๐Ÿš— Listening to audiobooks during travel
๐Ÿ“š Visiting your local library
โญ Letting your child choose books that match their interests

The most important thing isn't what they're readingโ€”it's that they ARE reading!

What's on your child's summer reading list? Share your favorites below! ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿฆ‹ We've got some new faces here at RHP! ๐Ÿฆ‹

Meet Stacy and Elena, the providers who will be helping care for your kiddos while our APRN Emily is out on maternity leave.

Many of you have already met Stacy and have welcomed her so warmlyโ€”thank you! Elena will be joining us later this summer and will be seeing patients for both well-child and sick visits.

If you see them around the office or in an exam room, please say hello, give them a smile, or leave a welcome message in the comments. We are so excited to have them as part of the RHP family and know you'll love getting to know them, too! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿฆ‹

Great advice here from our friends at Litchfield County Pediatrics!

โ€ผ๏ธRecent reports in Connecticut show a rise in Benadryl (diphenhydramine) overdoses in children and teensโ€”including deaths.

๐Ÿ’ŠWe do not recommend Benadryl for routine allergy treatment. Safer, longer-acting options like Zyrtec, Claritin, Allegra, & Xyzal are preferred.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ Keep all medications locked up, avoid large quantities at home, and talk with older kids and teens about medication safety.
