L&M Hospital Staff Hold Informational Picket Over Stalled Contract Talks And Patient Safety.

Medical staff at Lawrence + Memorial (L+M) Hospital in City of New London, Connecticut held an outside the acute care facility on Monday to protest about patient safety at the hospital and stalled contract talks.

, and say Yale New Haven Health, who runs the hospital, is failing patients because of unsafe working conditions.

Barbara Sadowski is a Registered Nurse and President of L+M Federation of Registered Professional Nurses.

“Last year our hospital was the only hospital in the Yale system that made a profit. So you’d think they’d be happy eith that? Ladies and gentlemen they are not. Since then they’ve started cutting even more. They’re changing our equipment. They’re decreasing departments like IV’s and then they change the catheter system to the cheapest one they could possibly find, ok, so that every time you got to hook this up you’re going to have blood all over your gloves and your uniforms.”

Unions say Yale New Haven Health have stalled talks with them for almost a year over their contracts and safety concerns.

Michael Passero For New London is the Mayor of the City of New London and had this message for the hospitals corporate owner that the hospital is still a community facility.

“We need to send a message to New Haven. No more imposed contracts. Bargain in good faith with these unions. We know what the goal is here. They’re just going to drag it out and drag it out and drag it out. The way we beat them down is with the power you have right here today, in unison. Know that this city is behind you.”

A spokesperson for L&M said their leadership team continues to negotiate in good faith, and they are confident they will reach an agreement that is fair, responsible and competitive within the broader healthcare marketplace.
