In Loving Memory Jay Carroll “J.C.” Law July 14, 1955 – June 10, 2026

Jay Carroll “J.C.” Law, 70, of Rocky Mount, Virginia, passed away on June 10, 2026, after several months of declining health. Born in Rocky Mount, he was the son of the late Pearl Izetta and Alfred Andrew Law.

J.C. is survived by his children, Donald Andrew Law and Shannon Law Nelson, both of Iowa. He is also survived by his siblings: Dewayne (Mary) Law of Roanoke, Virginia; Kathy (Mike) Palmer of Penhook, Virginia; Lynn Law‑Wheeler of Danville, Virginia; and Betty Patterson of Elkhart, Indiana. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews, including special nieces Tammy Law Thomas of Winston‑Salem, North Carolina, and Teresa Law Rice (Scott) of Danville, Virginia, as well as special nephew Michael Law (Angie) of Ridgeway, Virginia.

In addition to his parents, J.C. was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Terrie Maguire Law; his daughter, Nicole Carroll Mallory; and his brothers, Larry, Allan, and Leon Law.

Proudly serving his country, J.C. spent ten years in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant and Combat Medevac Specialist. His dedication to service continued long after his military career, as he became the owner and operator of a local auto mechanic shop, where he was known for his skill, honesty, and willingness to help anyone in need.

An enthusiastic collector of antiques - especially fi****ms and coins - he found joy in sharing the stories behind his treasures. His home was a place of generosity and welcome, where no visitor ever left empty‑handed. His kindness, humor, and giving spirit touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

J.C. will be remembered with deep love, respect, and admiration by his family, friends, and all whose lives he brightened.

He wore the Screaming Eagle with pride, a true guardian of the sky. As a United States Army Staff Sergeant, he served with unwavering courage and a dedication that never faltered. For ten years, he stood ready—steady hands, sharp skill, and a warrior’s heart guiding every mission. His legacy is one of honor, strength, and quiet heroism. A soldier remembered, a man deeply loved, forever respected for the life he lived and the service he gave. He was a proud, enthusiastic patriot—steadfast in his love of our country. Forever a Screaming Eagle.

A celebration of his life will be conducted at Glade Hill Baptist Church 3 PM Saturday, June 20, 2026 with Pastors Kevin Howerton and David Long officiating. Marci Smith McGuire

Marci dawn smith, 50,

Suddenly passed away June 3rd, 2026 at Roanoke memorial hospital. She proceeded in death by Judy Gale Smith and Roy Lee Smith. Left to remember her is Adrianna McGuire (daughter), her significant other Mike Cruff, and her absolute best friend Shannon Hodges along with many other friends and family.

Marci was a family oriented, bright, and resilient woman. She always did whatever she could for her family, whether it was distant or immediate family.

Even if you weren’t family she still would have done as much as she could have done for you.

Marci enjoyed being outside under the sun, she loved being surrounded by her loved ones, watching her favorite football team (UVA and the Dallas cowboys), and most of all she loved meeting new people. Wherever she went she always made a lifelong friend.

Marci lived a very fulfilling life that was spent with the best people around her. With everything she went through she always had people she could lean on and that always meant the world to her. Her spirit will never fade as long as we celebrate her beautiful life and continue carrying her in our hearts.

William "Bill" Paul Murdock, Sr.

William Paul Murdock, Sr., passed away June 1, 2026 at his home on Smith Mountain Lake. AKA ‘Bill’ or ‘Sweet William’, was born November 19, 1932, in Roanoke, to the late Sam and Catherine Webber Murdock. In his younger days, he spent many hours roller skating, and participated in the Soap Box Derby for 3 years. He was proud of his best finish runner-up in A Division and earned a trophy for fastest heat time. Graduating from Jefferson High School in 1950, Bill had an early interest in electronics, and furthered his education at Montgomery Junior College in Bethesda, Md. He served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War. After discharge from the Navy in 1953, he began a long career with IBM. Spanning almost 39 years, he worked in Roanoke, Blacksburg, and retired in 1992 in Richmond, Virginia. He enjoyed sports, and participated as a fastpitch softball pitcher, and was an avid bowler in Roanoke and Richmond. He was instrumental in forming the Common Investors Club in Roanoke and served as its President for 3 years. Bill enjoyed making and fixing things. He built several pieces of furniture for their home. As one neighbor joked, “If it’s 90 degrees, Bill is down on the dock replacing boards”. Never one to call a repairman, Bill found a way to fix just about anything. He also loved boating, water skiing, fishing, and hunting. A perfect day for Bill was spent fishing or hunting with his sons, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren, enjoying the family at their annual family reunions, or listening to the juke box with Elaine. Bill was also pre-deceased by his sister, Winifred Hentschel. Cherishing his memory is his beloved wife of 52 years, Elaine L. Murdock, his ‘5VT Sons’, Paul Murdock, Jr. (Kay) of Dayton, Ohio, Joe Murdock (Susan) of Midlothian, VA., Ben Murdock, Farmville, Mike Murdock (Rachael) of Dayton, Ohio, and Patrick Murdock (Shannon) of Roanoke, VA.
