🎉🎉🎉 The Women's Center has been awarded the IBCLC Care Award by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) and the International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA) for excellence in Lactation care! 🎉🎉🎉

This prestigious award recognizes facilities that bring skilled IBCLCs to help protect, promote, and support breastfeeding.

As part of our overall commitment to women’s health and care for expecting mothers, UNC Health Nash has added an OB hospitalist program to provide consistent care to patients in our hospital, as well as emergent care to those arriving in Labor and Delivery.
This new program brings an experienced team of OB/GYNs and Certified Nurse Midwives on-site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

These dedicated providers will provide a number of services including:
▶️ Providing care in times of emergency prior to the arrival of a patient’s own physician
▶️ Supporting the care of high-risk pregnancy patients
▶️ Delivering babies for patients as needed

These hospital-based OB/GYN physicians and Certified Nurse Midwives will help enhance patient safety and improve the coordination and efficiency of care. They will not replace the care of a patient’s regular physician, but they will provide peace of mind to our patients since an OB/GYN will be available at a moment’s notice to step in to provide care when needed.

To support this new model of care, a new “Obstetrical Emergency Department (OBED)” was established on the first floor of the Nash Women’s Center on January 6. Pregnant patients requiring emergency care will be evaluated and cared for as needed by the OB hospitalist team in this new area.

🍼 The first baby born at UNC Health Nash is always a meaningful milestone, marking both a new beginning for a family and the start of a new year for the care team. As 2026 began, the Nash Women’s Center welcomed its first newborn early Thursday morning on January 1—a baby boy named Karter, born to parents MaKaelah Joyner and Alonte Givens, bringing added joy and excitement to New Year’s Day.
Joyner shared that she was happy to welcome her new baby and grateful that he is healthy, saying “every contraction was worth it,” while Givens expressed his excitement to welcome the year’s first arrival. The Nash Women’s Center team said they were honored to support the family during this special moment, noting that both mother and baby are doing well as they begin this new chapter together.
