At UNC Health Nash Foundation, we are incredibly grateful for the generosity of Lee and Sylvia Harriss whose support helped make a new Community Paramedic Program vehicle a reality.

Their investment provided funding not only for the vehicle itself, but also for the essential equipment needed to bring care directly into our community. This vehicle will help our Community Paramedics reach patients where they are, connecting them with resources, support, and healthcare services that improve health outcomes and quality of life. Last fiscal year, our Community Paramedics completed 12,233 visits across 5,549 patients.

Because of compassionate supporters like Lee and Sylvia, we can continue expanding access to care for those who need it most.

Today, we are excited to share the inspiring story of Lamica Morgan, made possible through the generosity of our donors. With donor support, the Foundation purchased two iPads equipped with Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) apps to help patients facing communication barriers express their needs, participate in their care, and connect more effectively with their care teams.

What began as a pilot program has already made a lasting impact. Through the use of these devices, staff have been able to identify patients who could benefit from a personal AAC device and help them navigate the often-complex insurance approval process. This past month, Lamica became the first patient to receive her own AAC device through insurance coverage.

Lamica's journey demonstrates the power of donor support to create meaningful change. Thanks to this innovative program, she now has access to a communication tool that will enhance her independence, strengthen her ability to connect with others, and ensure her voice can be heard long after leaving the hospital. Her success marks an exciting milestone and highlights how philanthropy can open doors to life-changing opportunities for patients and families.

We would like to extend a special thank you to First Presbyterian Church in Rocky Mount for their recent donation of fidget blankets. These blankets provide comfort and sensory support for patients experiencing anxiety, restlessness, dementia, or other cognitive challenges. Thoughtfully designed with a variety of textures, buttons, zippers, and other tactile elements, fidget blankets can help promote calmness, engagement, and a sense of security during a hospital stay. We are grateful for this meaningful gift and the church’s commitment to supporting the well-being of our patients.

Shout out to BoxHause Rocky Mount Boxing And Fitness LLC for hosting an amazing 5k fundraiser. Many thanks to all the sponsors and runners that made this inaugural event such a success. Your partnership will enable the foundation to continue funding critical programs like the Community Paramedic Program that work outside the walls of the hospital to improve community health!

, THANK YOU! ❤️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

Thank you for showing up in a big way for our First Annual HauseNation 5K benefiting the UNC Health Nash Foundation’s Community Paramedic Program!

Because of YOU—our 157 runners and walkers—we raised $3,000 that will directly support efforts to improve the health of our community through the Community Paramedic Program.

Each year, the UNC Health Nash Foundation impacts thousands of patients and community members across Nash County and beyond. As the fundraising arm of UNC Health Nash, the Foundation works to break down barriers to care that medication and healthcare alone cannot address. Thanks to partnerships and support from events like the HauseNation 5K, the Foundation has been able to fund four community paramedics, who completed 8,568 home visits serving more than 4,700 patients.

A very special thank you to our incredible sponsors:

We had the pleasure of welcoming and onboarding 34 Junior Volunteers this week! These students are now supporting departments throughout the hospital and are already making a difference.

They’ll be with us all summer and will also lead a community service project at Bryant T. Aldridge Rehabilitation Center. Stay tuned to learn how you can support their efforts and follow along with their impact!

Each year, departments across our hospital team up to create incredible baskets in celebration of Hospital Week.

Staff members had the chance to vote for their favorite baskets and purchase additional raffle tickets for $1 each. Together, we raised an incredible $3,874 for Patient Assistance. Patient Assistance provides critical support like medication, transportation, and medical equipment to help patients safely recover and heal at home after discharge.

We’re so grateful to everyone who created a basket, purchased raffle tickets, and joined in the fun while supporting our mission. Your generosity truly makes a difference for the patients we serve every day.

Want to see all the amazing baskets? Check out our latest video showcasing each one!
