Help us in congratulating William S.
"I'm 48 years old and live in Louisiana, with my wife of 14 years and our 3 children. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, golfing, and making memories with my family. A fun fact about me is that I played golf for the University of New Orleans.
In addition to my work in Infusion Nursing, I own a small nursing business, where we administer medications to patients with dementia and Alzheimer's in 2 residential living centers.
My decision to become a nurse was unique and came from a life-changing experience. Before entering healthcare, I worked in banking and was involved in a bank robbery. During the incident, one robber jumped over the counter and held me at gunpoint. After realizing I didn't have access to any money, he moved on. Another robber fired a shot in my direction, thankfully missing me, before the robbers fled. That experience led me to the realization that I needed a career change. TRUE STORY!
I've been a nurse since 2009 and have worked in ICU, Cath Lab, and the ER. In 2015 I began home infusion nursing, and it has been one of the most rewarding experiences. While I enjoy the fast-paced environment of the ER, what I love most about home infusion is the relationships built with patients and families. Over the years, some of my long-term patients have become like extended family. We've shared fishing trips, camping adventures, hunting experiences, bingo games, birthdays, and holiday celebrations. Some even FaceTime with my children. One thing I've learned is that patients rarely let me leave empty-handed. I often head home with an ice chest full of food because they insist on sending something back to my family.
I'm grateful to be part of a profession that allows me to make a difference while building such meaningful connections, and I look forward to continuing that journey with all of you."
