**Throughout August, we honor those whose sacrifice is etched into our nation's history.**

National Purple Heart Month is a time to recognize the extraordinary courage of the men and women who were wounded or gave their lives while defending the United States. The Purple Heart, established by General George Washington in 1782 and revived as a military decoration in 1932, remains one of our nation's most revered honors, symbolizing sacrifice in the face of danger.

The American Legion, Department of Florida proudly honors every Purple Heart recipient and extends our deepest gratitude to their families, whose strength and support have also served our nation. Their sacrifices remind us that the freedoms we enjoy have come at a profound cost.

This month, take time to attend a local observance, thank a Purple Heart recipient, learn their story, or support wounded veterans in your community. Together, we ensure their service and sacrifice are never forgotten.

"I’m waking and thinking 'okay Cheryl, let’s survive another day.' ...Like most people whose lives have been blasted to smithereens by the death of someone they love deeply, I’ve had no choice but to go on doing what life demands of me."
Writer Cheryl Strayed on coping with death – and life.

This week, Neptune Marketing Vice President Cortney Mills, Marketing Director Dennis Norris, and Senior Marketing Specialist Keith Moore joined the Neptune Society Reno team and our Dignity Memorial partners at the Veterans of Foreign Wars VFW National Convention at Reno-Sparks Convention Center.

"More than an opportunity to showcase our commitment to serving veterans and their families, it was an incredible experience to connect with the men and women who have served our country and to hear many of their inspiring stories firsthand," Dennis said. "It was an honor to stand with them, express our gratitude, and reinforce our commitment to helping them and their loved ones plan with dignity, care, and peace of mind.
"The event also highlighted the strength of collaboration across our brands, as we welcomed hundreds of attendees, shared meaningful conversations, recognized a young attendee with a special giveaway, and distributed our veteran commemorative challenge coins, which sparked heartfelt interactions.
"Experiences like these remind us that our work goes far beyond the services we provide – it is about building lasting relationships, honoring those who served, and giving back to a community that has given so much to our nation."
Be sure to stop by and say hello to our team!

Although the parents of a family they served passed away years apart, Neptune Boise Service Manager Terry Edwards and Office Coordinator Jackie Christiansen arranged for the couple's ashes to be scattered together in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, a place they loved.
They sent photos of the scattering spot with a certificate that included the precise location to the couple's children, who responded with this warm letter of gratitude.
We will always do all we can to fulfill the wishes of our families.

Actor Sam Neill, who died unexpectedly Monday at age 78, choked up when asked what lessons he learned from his parents. After reflecting on the question, he talked about how they were "stoic" people who had lived through the world wars and the Depression, and how his mother said to him once when he was anxious about school, "Well, you're just going to have to pull yourself together."
"It was a tough lesson, but it's a good one," Neill said.
