Anxiety can trigger nausea through the gut-brain connection and activation of the stress response.
Somatic tools don't erase anxiety instantly, but research suggests body-based regulation strategies like paced breathing and grounding can help reduce physiological arousal.
Try these body-based tools:
Lengthen your exhale
Inhale for 4, exhale for 6–8. Longer exhales can help shift your nervous system toward a calmer state.
Ground through your feet
Press your feet firmly into the floor and notice the pressure, temperature, and contact points. Grounding pulls attention out of the spiral and back into your body.
Release jaw and belly tension
Unclench your jaw and soften your stomach muscles. Anxiety often creates unconscious bracing.
Orient to safety
Slowly look around the room and name five things you see. Your nervous system constantly scans for danger — give it updated information.
Don't force the nausea to disappear.
The goal is helping your body feel safer, not fighting the sensation.
