On May 7, 2025, at just 30 years old, Katie Smith suffered a vertebral artery dissection that led to three strokes. What followed was a long and difficult road filled with uncertainty, recovery, and moments that tested her strength and faith.
Today, Katie sees that day differently. Not as the end of her story, but as a second chance at life.
Over the past year, she has leaned on her faith, the love of her husband Cody, and the joy of their 7-year-old daughter, Kensie, to keep moving forward, one step at a time. While recovery has not been easy, Katie continues to meet each challenge with courage, gratitude, and hope for what’s ahead.
On May 14, Katie threw out the first pitch at the Rome Emperors Strike Out Stroke game, marking one year since the stroke that changed her life with a celebration of resilience, healing, and the moments that matter most.
Now, Katie and her family are looking ahead with thankful hearts as they prepare to welcome a baby boy into their family this August.
From hospital days to the pitcher’s mound, Katie’s story is a reminder that healing is often a journey taken one day at a time, with faith, family and hope leading the way.
