Lynn M. Aquino

Lynn Marie Aquino, 76, of Las Vegas, Nevada, formerly of Rome, New York, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on August 25, 1949, in Rome, Lynn was the cherished daughter of Samuel S. and Dorothy Tarbania. One of five siblings, she grew up surrounded by the warmth of a close-knit Italian American family that would shape the generous and loyal heart she carried throughout her life.

Lynn graduated from Saint Aloysius Academy in 1967 and went on to build a life defined by service, hard work, and deep connection to her community. For decades, Lynn and her husband, the late Nicholas "Butch" Aquino, Jr., proudly owned and operated Aquino's Restaurant, a true Rome staple, which she sold in 2019 to move to Las Vegas to live closer to her sons.. She also worked for many years for the Rome City School District as a Special Education Aide and Librarian Aide, touching the lives of countless children.

Lynn passed on what would have been her and Butch's 44th wedding anniversary. Their marriage was a beautiful testament to enduring love, partnership, and family. Together they raised a family rooted in the same values of loyalty, hard work, and unconditional love that carries forward through their children and grandchildren.

Lynn's greatest joy was savoring every precious moment she could with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her three sons: Michael Salvatore Aquino and his wife Molly; Nicholas Aquino III and his wife Brenda; and John Piccola and his wife Sarah; four grandchildren: Masen Salvatore Aquino, Micah Anthony Aquino, Elyse Piccola, and Evan Piccola; two sisters: Ann Lynch and Donna Spina and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents and two brothers, Samuel Tarbania and John Jude Tarbania. Lynn also had a special love for Jose Dela Cruz, a student with whom she worked with directly for many years until his passing.

Lynn's greatest legacy is the love she gave so freely and the family she held so dear. Though our hearts ache, we find comfort knowing she is at peace, reunited with Butch, and watching over us all with that beautiful smile we will never forget.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter's Church at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 26, 2026. Following the Mass, Lynn will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Butch, at St. Peter's Cemetery.

There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that acts of kindness be performed in Lynn's memory, helping a neighbor, spending extra time with family, or offering a word of encouragement to a child, because that is how Lynn lived every single day.

Theresa M. Mazzacua

Theresa M. Mazzacua passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026, in Williamsville, NY. She was a lifelong resident of Rome, where she spent most of her 89 years.

Theresa was born in Rome on July 4, 1936, to the late Karl and Theresa Stamm Schraml, and graduated from St. Aloysius Academy. On August 5, 1961, she was united in marriage to Anthony Mazzacua; a blessed union of over 56 years until his passing on October 3, 2017. She worked at Griffiss AFB before staying home to raise her family.

Theresa was a member of St. Paul's Church. She enjoyed swimming, sewing, biking, crocheting, and cooking pizzas with her grandchildren.

Theresa is survived by her daughters, Theresa "Tracy" (John) Gleason and Dr. Andrea (Dr. Robert) Setlik; her son, Douglas (Flor) Mazzacua; her son-in-law, James Culbertson; her beloved grandchildren, Alexander, Jonathan, and Henry Gleason, Michelle (Paul) Sisneros, David Culbertson, and Rachel, Rebecca, Edith, and William Setlik; her great grandchildren, Samuel and Alice Sisneros; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Pamela Culbertson, her sisters, Barbara Ruane and Frances Coluccio, and her brothers, Bernie, Karl, and Paul Schraml.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 17, at 11 a.m., at St. Paul's Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday, June 16, from 4 to 6 p.m., at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.

Doris A. Baldigo

Doris A. Baldigo, age 98, of Rome, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026, at Rome Health.

Doris was born in Oriskany on May 25, 1928, to the late Clarence and Catherine Myers Hunziker, and graduated from Camden High School in 1946. On June 24, 1950, she was united in marriage to Stanley E. Baldigo; a blessed union of over 65 years until his passing on January 1, 2016. Doris worked as an office professional at Griffiss AFB, and in her later years, at Davis Optical.

Doris enjoyed gardening and was an avid reader in her spare time. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and cherished the times and memories with her beloved family and friends.

Doris is survived by her daughters, Amy (Dan) Replogle of Richmond, TX, Nancy (David) Lowerhouse of Melbourne, FL, Linda (Lowry) Brott of Wasilla, AK, and Sharon Baldigo of Rome; her son, Jeffrey Baldigo of Clay, NY; her grandchildren, Kristen and Erin Lowerhouse, Rachael, Matthew (Sintia), and Jadon Baldigo; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Carol Henriksen, Betty Rapke, and her brother, Howard Hunziker.

In keeping with Doris' wishes, services will be private. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Sherman A. Stein

Sherman "Rip" A. Stein, age 95, formerly of Marcy, was reunited with his beloved wife, Anne, on June 5, 2026, at the Masonic Care Community.

Sherman was born in Buffalo on July 4, 1930, to the late Hyman and Fannie Stein. In 1950, Sherman and Anne were united in marriage and shared almost 76 years of wedded bliss until her passing just 27 days ago on May 9, 2026. He worked for the Singer Sewing Machine Company and later Smith Packing. After retiring, he ran The Sewing Machine Repair Center out of his garage.

Sherman was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Scottish Rites, a Shriner, and belonged to St. Leo's-St. Ann's Church in Holland Patent. He drove many children from the Utica area to the Shriner's Hospital in Boston.

Sherman is survived by his daughters, Sharon Falvo of Marcy and Sandra Gibbs of Rome; his son, Richard (Tracy) Stein of Floyd; his grandchildren, Bernie (Christianne) Stooks of NC, Brendon Stooks (Eden Lefevre) of Utica, Shannon Gibbs of Rome, Tanya (Kevin) Hallenbake of Waterville, and Sherman Jacob Stein of Floyd; his great-grandchildren, Chandler, Lilly, Ian, Nic, Jon, Grace, Emma and William; and several nieces, nephews and cousins with special acknowledgement of Angela and Gary Givonetti who did so much for Anne and Sherman. He was predeceased by his sister, Roma Inserra and brothers, Philip Stein, Paul Stevens, and Marcus Stein.

Sherman's family wishes to extend their gratitude to the caring staff at Masonic Care Community.

Patrick M. Bewick

Patrick M. Bewick, age 67, of the Town of Floyd, passed away on June 3, 2026 at Rome Health.

Patrick was born in Wiesbaden, Germany on May 18, 1959, to the late Thomas and Erna (Messerklinger) Bewick. On December 1984 he was united in marriage to Heidi Schneider. Patrick was employed for 32 years at Par-Tech as an electronic engineer and most recently at Collins Aerospace on Griffiss Park.

Patrick was a loving, caring and respected man - always eager to help anyone in need. He loved camping, fishing (without a license), waterskiing, and spoiling his beloved canines Grimm and Shilo.

Patrick is survived by his loving wife, Heidi; his sons, William "Bill" (Corinna) Bewick of Oriskany, and David Bewick of California; his three grandchildren, Jewels, Jace, and Joelle; his sister, Theresia (Walter) Tice of New York City, and their son, Ryan. He was predeceased by his brother Anthony "Tony" Bewick.

We would like to acknowledge several special friends; his best man, Michael Waszkiewiz, Chris James, Jill Burdick, and Martin Tuzzolino.

A celebration of life will be held at the family home on Sunday June 7, 2026 at 12 noon.

Dawn M. Haley

Dawn M. Haley, age 84, of Rome, passed away on May 31, 2026, at Rome Health.

Dawn was born in Rome on November 30, 1941, to the late Leon and Margaret Seifert Finster Hall, and graduated from RFA. On August 19, 1961, she was united in marriage to James "Jim" D. Haley, Sr. at St. Mary's Church in Rome; a blessed union of 49 years until his passing on September 19, 2010. Dawn worked as a bus monitor for Cletus Paine Bus Company.

Dawn was a member of the Lee Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing games on her computer and frequenting the Turning Stone Casino.

Dawn is survived by her sons, Shane (Kristie) Haley of Ava, James (Colleen) Haley, Jr. of Lee Center, and Leon Haley of Rome; her grandchildren, Anthony (Amanda), Shane Jr.(Alyssa), Josh (Rebecca), and Taylor Haley, Brittany, Brian, and Brenda; and 12 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a grandson, David Haley who remained forever in her heart.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Rome Health Emergency Department and the 2 East nursing staff for the exceptional care, kindness, and compassion shown to Dawn and her family during her stay. They would also like to express their deepest appreciation to her granddaughter, Rebecca, whose weekly pampering, love, and devotion made the last year of Dawn's life especially comfortable, meaningful, and filled with joy.

Dawn's funeral will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at 6 PM, at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be on Friday, June 5, at 10:30 AM, at St. Mary's Cemetery.

Robert F. Basenfelder

Robert F. Basenfelder, age 100, of River Road, Rome, NY, died on May 30, 2026.

A lifelong resident of Floyd, NY, he was born November 18,1925, the son of Francis and Jennie Nutt Basenfelder. He married C. Fabiola Maes on January 30th, 1960. Bob was a U.S. Army veteran, having served overseas in the European Theater during WWII. He was employed as a systems analyst for 41 years at Revere Copper & Brass, retiring in 1987.

An ardent fisherman and sportsman, he was also an avid carpenter and enjoyed handicrafts, general repairs, and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, C. Fabiola Basenfelder, children: Aleta Duvall, Roberta Basenfelder, Rebecca Basenfelder, Romona (Roy) Gan, Timothy Basenfelder; grandchildren: Eva Duvall, Robert Duvall (Lindsay Buchanan); great-grandchild: Benedict Duvall; sisters: Arda Makarchuk, Jane Basenfelder; nieces and nephews: Gordon Makarchuk, Lisa Makarchuk, Laura Makarchuk, Lana Makarchuk, Margaret Romer, Anita Orf, Julie Armstrong Smith, and James Kobelia Jr., as well as other members of his extended family.

He was predeceased by his son, Rafael Basenfelder, in 1982; son-in-law, Alan Duvall, in 2017; and granddaughters, Angela Rose Duvall, in 2018; and Sofia Rafaela Patel, in 2026.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 4, at St. Peter's Church, 200 N. James Street, Rome, NY at 11 AM. Burial will be in Townsend Cemetery, Stittville.

Edward W. Lubecki Jr.

Edward W. Lubecki (Lubeck) Jr., 93, of Lee, passed away peacefully at Rome Health on Monday, May 25, 2026.

Born on September 8, 1932, in Rome, a graduate of RFA, was the son of late Edward Sr. and Pauline Kierpiec Lubecki. On May 15, 1954, he married the love of his life, former Beverley Mullaney, at Transfiguration Church.

Ed proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-1956. He continued his service to his community as a Griffiss Air Force Base firefighter for 20 years, retiring in 1987. Also, he was a 64-year parishioner at St. Joseph's Church in Lee Center, NY.

Ed loved his God, his family, coffee/donuts, 1962 Chevy Bel Air, Boston Red Sox, his boat and fishing!

He is survived by his loving wife, Bev of 72 years, sons Mark Lubeck of Stanwix, Randy (Margaret) Lubeck of Poland; his sister, Cathy (Paul) Spargo of Alabama; his beloved grandchildren (12) and great grandchildren (15); as well as many nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by his brothers Paul, Ben, and Joe, and his sister, Christine Lubeck.

Mass was held at St. Joseph's Church. Burial was at St. Mary's Cemetery.

Richard H. Lohr

Richard H. Lohr, age 84, of the Town of Verona, passed away on May 24, 2026, at the Sunset Nursing Home in Boonville.

Richard was born in Durhamville, NY on January 18, 1942, to the late Henry and Alice Gregory Lohr, and earned his GED in 1984. On February 26, 1966, he was united in marriage to the former Kathleen Brower; a blessed union of over 55 years until her passing on April 23, 2021. Richard worked for the Town of Verona Highway Department.

Richard enjoyed woodworking and was an avid hunter and enjoyed nature, especially the birds and frogs.

Richard is survived by his daughter, Tina (Ernest) Megerell of Taberg; his sons, Henry (Wendy) Lohr of Oneida, John Lohr of Verona, and Billy Lohr of Verona; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Sandy Witzigman, and his brothers, Jack Gregory, Stuart Lohr, and Robert Lohr.

Richard's funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 28, at 6 PM, at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. A private family burial will be held in Grove Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Thursday from 4 to 6 PM prior to the service.
