Research Shows Children With Pet Dogs May Have Increased Protection From Infections
HealthDay (8/6, Thompson) reports that a study published in the journal Pediatric Allergy and Immunology suggests that children “with pet dogs get fewer respiratory tract infections and require fewer rounds of antibiotics than children not exposed to canines.” Researchers say “microbes from dogs appear to provide some protection to children, helping them remain healthier on average. ... As much as a quarter of this good health among children is linked to bacteria and fungi found among dogs, researchers said.”
