October is Dyslexia Awareness Month — and we want to share something that often surprises people. 📚
Did you know that reading is built on language?
Before a child ever holds a book, the foundation for reading is being laid in the sounds they hear, the words they learn, and the way their brain processes language.
SLPs work on this foundation every day.
Phonological awareness — the ability to hear and play with the sounds in words — is one of the strongest early predictors of reading success. And it's squarely in the wheelhouse of speech-language pathology.
When a child struggles to rhyme, to segment words into syllables, or to isolate individual sounds, that's not just a speech concern. It's a literacy concern.
At Simply Communication, we're thinking about reading from the very beginning of a child's language development — because that's when the groundwork gets laid.

A few weeks into the school year — and teachers are already seeing everything. 👀

The child who is quieter than expected.
The one struggling to follow multi-step directions.

The one whose lunch habits are raising questions.

Teachers often notice things before anyone else does. And when they speak up — kindly, thoughtfully, with a family's best interest at heart — it changes things.

Some of the best things we do for our patients happen before they ever walk in the door. 🚪
This season, we've been making some meaningful behind-the-scenes upgrades at Simply Communication — and we wanted to share two of them.

📹 Teletherapy just got smoother. We've moved from Zoom to Google Meet for our teletherapy sessions. That means Google Calendar invitations sent directly to your inbox — no more separate platform logins, no more hunting for links.

Simpler for you. Simpler for us. Simply.

🗂️ Our team works smarter behind the scenes. We've also brought our task management system fully into our EMR — the same platform we use to manage your care. More automation means our admin team spends less time on logistics and more time on what actually matters: managing patient needs, answering your questions, and making sure nothing falls through the cracks.

We're always asking: how can we make this experience better for families?

These are two answers.

When someone hears "speech therapist," they usually picture one thing.
The reality is so much bigger.
🧠 At Simply Communication, our speech-language pathologists work with children in the areas of: 🗣️ Speech — articulation, phonology, motor speech
📖 Language — understanding, expression, literacy
🍽️ Feeding — texture progression, oral motor function, picky eating 🎙️
Voice — vocal quality, resonance, breath support

🌬️ A myofunctional approach — addressing oral rest posture, nasal breathing, and tongue function as part of the whole picture

That last one gets asked about a lot — so let's be clear: we are speech-language pathologists who incorporate a myofunctional approach into our work. It's not a separate specialty here — it's woven into how we see the whole child.

I’m excited to share that I’ve been selected to participate in the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program!
For the next several months, I’ll be learning alongside other small business owners and taking a deeper look at how we can continue to grow Simply Communication thoughtfully and intentionally.
When I started Simply Communication in 2009, my goal was simply to provide really great, individualized care. Seventeen years later, that is still at the center of everything we do—but now I also get to think about how we grow our team, improve the experience for our families, strengthen our community partnerships, and make sure Simply Communication continues to evolve.
I’m excited to spend some dedicated time working on the business so that we can continue doing what we love most—supporting our patients and families.

There are many concerns coming with the coding changes. Thank you AAPPSPA for helping fight the right fight for our patients!

AAPPSPA has submitted its official comments on the proposed 2027 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule.

Our members bring a range of perspectives to these proposed changes, and our comment was written to reflect that. Rather than assuming one outcome would work best for every practice, we examined the potential benefits, risks, and real-world consequences of the different paths CMS may take.

The comment draws on member data, the public valuation record, and the day-to-day experience of private practices to address shared concerns about payment, patient access, coding, implementation, and administrative burden.

Our goal was to provide CMS with a thoughtful, practical, and balanced analysis—and a clear picture of what small SLP practices need before these changes move forward.
