Seizures are not always caused by epilepsy.
For some individuals, seizures may be one of the first signs that something is happening in the brain, including the presence of a brain tumor. When a tumor forms near areas of the brain that control electrical activity, it can trigger seizures that may look and feel similar to epileptic seizures.
That is why a thorough neurological evaluation is so important. A careful history, EEG, and brain imaging like MRI help identify the underlying cause of seizures and guide the safest, most effective treatment plan.
On World Brain Tumor Day, we want patients and families to know: not all seizures are the same, and understanding what is happening in the brain is the first and most important step in getting the right care.
At Minnesota Epilepsy Group, our specialists work with patients whose seizures have a range of causes, and we are committed to accurate diagnosis and individualized treatment.
