It was a pleasure presenting my Caregiver Toolkit Workshop today at the Maidu Community Center!

Caregiving is one of the most meaningful roles a person can have, but it can also be exhausting. Today we focused on practical tools to help caregivers feel seen, supported, and empowered with simple strategies to improve their own well-being while caring for someone they love.

Thank you to everyone who attended and shared your experiences. Your dedication to your loved ones is inspiring, and I hope you left with reminders that your health and well-being matter too.

If you or someone you know is a caregiver who feels overwhelmed, stretched thin, or isn’t sure how to balance their own needs while caring for a loved one, I’d love to help. You don’t have to navigate this journey alone.

Anxiety Doesn’t Always Look Like Worry

Many people picture anxiety as constant worrying or feeling overwhelmed. But in older adults, anxiety often shows up in physical ways that can easily be mistaken for aging or another medical condition.

Common signs of anxiety in older adults may include:
• Trouble sleeping or waking frequently during the night
• Muscle tension or unexplained aches and pains
• Fatigue or low energy
• Stomach upset or changes in appetite
• Restlessness or feeling “on edge”
• Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
• Increased irritability
• Avoiding activities, driving, or social gatherings

These symptoms are real, and they deserve attention. While it’s always important to rule out medical causes, emotional health plays an important role in overall well-being.

The good news is that anxiety is treatable at any age. Therapy can help you understand what’s happening, learn practical coping strategies, and regain confidence in daily life.

If you or someone you love has noticed these changes, know that you don’t have to navigate them alone.

🎉 Celebrating 2 Years of Roseville Elder Services! 🎉

This month marks two years since I opened Roseville Elder Services, and I’m filled with gratitude as I reflect on this journey.

Over the past two years, I’ve had the privilege of providing more than 2,000 therapy sessions to older adults and caregivers, delivering 20 educational speaking engagements, and partnering with incredible organizations throughout our community to support mental health, caregiving, aging with purpose, and advance care planning.

Thank you to the clients who have trusted me during some of life’s most challenging seasons, and to the community partners, senior living communities, physicians, care managers, networking groups, and aging professionals who have supported and referred to my practice.

It is an honor to celebrate your resilience, healing, growth, and victories every day.

Here’s to continuing this meaningful work and helping older adults and caregivers thrive in the years ahead.

Book Recommendations for Older Adults Facing Mortality

Facing the end of life can bring a mix of emotions: reflection, grief, gratitude, fear, peace, and everything in between. While there is no guidebook for this stage of life, these thoughtful reads can offer comfort, perspective, and meaningful conversation.

✨ Being Mortal by Atul Gawande
A compassionate look at aging, serious illness, and what matters most as we approach the end of life.

✨ The Four Things That Matter Most by Ira Byock
A powerful reminder of the healing found in four simple phrases: “Please forgive me,” “I forgive you,” “Thank you,” and “I love you.”

✨ Advice for Future Corpses (and Those Who Love Them) by Sallie Tisdale
An honest, wise, and surprisingly comforting exploration of mortality and what it means to live fully.

✨ Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom
A beloved story about life’s most important lessons, shared between a professor nearing the end of life and his former student.

✨ The Gift of Years by Joan Chittister
A hopeful reflection on aging as a season of wisdom, purpose, and growth.

💭 Sometimes the most important questions are not about how long we live, but how we make meaning of the life we’ve lived. These books can be a starting point for reflection, connection, and conversations that matter.

How you think about aging matters.

Research suggests that people who view aging more positively tend to experience better physical health, improved mental well-being, and may even live longer.

While aging brings challenges, it can also bring wisdom, resilience, deeper relationships, and a greater sense of purpose.

The stories we tell ourselves about growing older have an impact. Instead of focusing on what we’re losing, what if we focused on what we’re gaining?

At Roseville Elder Services, I help older adults navigate the emotional side of aging and build a fulfilling life at every stage.

Many older adults and caregivers hear: “feeling down is just part of aging,” “therapy won’t help,” or “just practice self-care.”

The truth? Mental health challenges are not a normal part of aging—and support can make a real difference.

Older adults benefit from therapy, and caregivers often need more than self-care—they need real support.

Roseville Elder Services provides mental health care for older adults and caregivers in Roseville and throughout Ca.

You don’t have to navigate this alone.
