For many years, it was thought that individuals with hypertension should not do resistance exercise due to the fact that blood pressure can temporarily increase while lifting weights. Research has now shown us that for most individuals, this type of exercise is safe and can actually helps train our blood vessels to efficiently react to the changes of internal pressure. Exercise may also help our kidneys work more effectively - which regulates blood pressure as well.

If you have been diagnosed with Hypertension, speak with your doctor about what type of exercises are safe for you before beginning a new fitness program. Find an Exercise Physiologist to guide you on proper techniques and to build you an individualized exercise prescription to fit your needs, limitations and goals.

Most people think of yoga as a flexibility or stress tool — and it is. But the research on what it does to blood sugar is worth paying attention to. A growing body of evidence shows that regular yoga practice can meaningfully improve insulin sensitivity, lower fasting glucose, and even reduce A1C levels in people with type 2 diabetes — in some studies, producing better outcomes than medication alone. The mechanism isn’t magic: yoga reduces cortisol, and cortisol directly drives blood sugar up. Less stress hormone, better glucose control. Whether you’re managing diabetes or just trying to protect your metabolic health long-term, this is one more reason movement doesn’t have to be intense to be powerful.

Yoga may support better blood sugar and insulin sensitivity. Experts share how it helps and tips to get started.

The effects of even a little movement is powerful. If sedentary individuals move a small amount more, to "low activity" activity levels, it would save BILLIONS of healthcare dollars every year.

If engaging in moderate, consistent activity, each individual can save, on average, $1000-2000 per year - much more if you account for loss of work, etc...

The benefits of even small physical activity outweigh the negative effects of sitting in a chair all day. There is nothing to fight against - it's your choice, but always remember it's the better choice.

Small increases in physical activity as part of our daily lives can bring long-term benefits to our health.

Most people think of rest when they have chronic pain, but many times, chronic pain can manifest from your brain "remembering" past injuries and trauma.

Exercise can actually help! Not only can each workout help desensitize your body to pain, it also produces endorphins which act like opioids - which help decrease sensation.
