CRABAPPLE City of Milton, Georgia… YOU SHOWED UP!!! 🔨🔥

What a day!!

Our apprentices brought their projects to the Crabapple Festival today and almost SOLD OUT. They walked away with over $900 in sales, we had people asking for custom orders, and the support from the Milton community was incredible.

Watching people walk through the booth, pick something up, and say “Who made this?” was awesome. Even better when we got to tell them it was made by one of our apprentices.

We came with a packed booth and left with almost nothing. 😂

Huge thank you to everyone who stopped by, bought something, placed an order, or just came over to see what Sawdust is all about. Milton definitely showed up for our crew today.

$900+ for the apprentices and a whole lot less stuff to load back into the truck. We’ll call that a win. 😂🔨

Crabapple Festival is THIS WEEKEND! 🔨

Our apprentices have been finishing up and getting ready. Cutting, sanding, staining, painting, building and probably producing enough sawdust to fill a small swimming pool.

But this is the part we’re really excited about. Our apprentices get to take the things they’ve worked hard on and actually sell them to people in the community!

There’s something pretty cool about watching something you made with your own hands go home with a family who genuinely appreciates it.
We’ve got flags, games, Halloween projects, home decor and a whole bunch more ready to go.

Come find Sawdust OT at Crabapple Festival in Milton this weekend and check out what these guys have been building!

And yes… there is plenty of Georgia AND Alabama stuff. We’re trying to keep the peace. 😂🔨

Woodchips is growing fast, and apparently so are our little chips! One minute they’re painting rocks and making string art. The next, they’re halfway up the climbing wall while telling the ENTIRE story of "How the Floor is Lava and Mr. Marshall is now a Lava monster". 😂

We’re having a lot of fun with this crew. Every day brings a new project, a new challenge, and at least one “wait, you can do that now?” moment!

Crabapple Fest is almost here, and our apprentices are cranking out some awesome projects!

Handmade tic-tac-toe boards, custom coaster sets, and some SEC rivalry with our latest Auburn flag!
Every project is an opportunity to work on fine motor skills, coordination, problem-solving, attention to task, and a little entrepreneurship. Now our apprentices get to take their hard work out of the workshop and into the community!

Come see us October 3rd at Crabapple Fest in Milton! Stop by our booth, meet our crew, and pick up something handmade by our apprentices.

And yes, Alabama fans, we've got something for you too. 😂

Crabapple Fest is coming October 3rd and our apprentices are getting ready! 🔨🇺🇸

These are just a couple of the projects that will be for sale at the Sawdust OT booth.

Our apprentices aren’t just building cool stuff. They’re working on fine motor skills, strength, coordination, problem solving, communication and endurance and then taking those skills out into the real world to sell what they made.

Come find us October 3rd, support our apprentices and take home something built at Sawdust.

Same assignment. Two VERY different directions.
Our apprentices have been working on wooden flag projects for zcrabapple Fest in Otcotber and these two pretty much sum up why we love doing projects like this at Sawdust.

One went classic Americana. The other said, “Yeah, but what if Alabama?”

And both turned out pretty awesome.

Important question: Which one are you hanging in your shop? 🇺🇸 or 🐘?

One of our apprentices made this bowl from pecan and maple, working through the entire process from raw material to the finished piece. It looks like a simple wooden bowl.

But from an Occupational Therapy perspective, there’s a lot more going on here: That meant sustained attention, sequencing, motor planning, bilateral coordination, fine motor control, gross motor strength, grip strength, hand-eye coordination, endurance, tool use, safety awareness, problem solving, and plenty of patience.

To build this our apprentices have to plan, design and thats before they ever put a chidel to wood. Then there’s sanding, shaping, positioning, stabilizing, applying the right amount of pressure, checking your work, correcting mistakes, and staying with a project that doesn’t come together in five minutes.

That’s one of the reasons we build at Sawdust.
We can work on strength by lifting weights. We can work on fine motor skills with exercises. We can practice attention with a worksheet.
Or we can make a pecan and maple bowl!

Same OT goals. A much cooler end product.

Some things transcend politics.

We had the chance to attend Representative Scott Hilton's reelection fundraiser and talk a little about Sawdust, our community, and the families we work with every day.

For us, it’s pretty simple. If someone wants to see our community grow and wants to support better opportunities for individuals with disabilities and neurodiverse families, we want to be part of that conversation.

We did have to drag Ben out of paternity leave for this one though. 😂 Sorry, Ben.

Thanks to Scott Hilton for having us and for continuing to listen to the people doing this work every day.

The Crabapple Festival prep is officially underway!

Our apprentices have been busy in the shop working on projects for this year’s Crabapple Festival in Milton!

From handmade American flags and resin tables to custom engraved tumblers, these are just a few of the projects taking shape. Each apprentice is getting the opportunity to plan, build, finish, and ultimately sell their own work to the community.

Crabapple is one of the biggest events we’ve had the opportunity to participate in, and we’re putting in the work to make sure we show up with some great pieces.

Plenty more coming out of the Sawdust shop between now and then. 🪵🔨
