Torticollis is very common in newborns and is best addressed as early as possible. This is one of those things that will not resolve with a “wait-and-see approach.” Pediatric physical therapy can typically resolve torticollis and prevent flattening of the skull, also called plagiocephaly. If you are in doubt as to whether your child has torticollis or not, a pediatric PT consult is always worth it!

Food chaining is a step-by-step therapy strategy used to expand the diets of picky eaters. Instead of expecting a child to eat completely new foods, it creates a “chain” of small, manageable changes—such as altering the flavor, texture, shape, or temperature—using foods the child already likes as a starting point. It’s a great strategy to use at home, combined with using describing words about the new foods, to help your child brought in their food range. Food chaining is one of many treatment techniques we use in feeding therapy.

If your child is a picky eater and mealtimes are stressful, it’s worth seeking help through therapy. Your child does not have to be underweight or have a diagnosis to qualify for our services. Sometimes just a few sessions can empower you as a parent and give you strategies to carry over at home! 🍗

Sometimes a child might be making great progress in speech therapy, but the progress just isn’t carrying over outside of sessions. 🤔

There is a lot that goes into speech production. So many times our children that have ADHD or other issues with executive functioning really struggle with the carryover part. Effectively addressing executive functioning deficits could also make gains from speech therapy more apparent.
