What should you know about cyclospora, a foodborne parasite that can cause stomach illness? St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center encourages you to take simple steps to help protect yourself and your family.

Cyclospora spreads when people eat food or drink water contaminated with f***l matter. Direct person-to-person spread is unlikely.
Symptoms of cyclosporiasis can include:
• Watery diarrhea
• Stomach cramps or bloating
• Gas
• Nausea
• Loss of appetite
• Fatigue
• Vomiting in some cases

In the U.S., Cyclospora outbreaks have been linked to fresh produce, including leafy greens and herbs.
To help reduce your risk:
• Wash your hands before preparing or eating food
• Rinse fruits and vegetables under running water before eating, cutting or cooking
• Scrub firm produce, such as melons or cucumbers, with a clean produce brush
• Refrigerate cut, peeled or cooked produce promptly
• Follow CDC, FDA or local health department guidance about any recalled or implicated foods
If diarrhea is prolonged, severe or recurring, talk with your primary care doctor or visit an urgent care clinic. A stool test may help confirm the cause and guide treatment.

After experiencing worsening vision problems and headaches, one Austin man learned he had a pituitary macroadenoma, a benign tumor at the base of the brain. At St. David’s Medical Center, he underwent an endoscopic transsphenoidal procedure to remove the tumor.

Today, he is feeling better, back to weekly guitar lessons and recently performed in front of an audience for the first time since the 1970s.

This is what expert care and advanced treatment can make possible. Read more here: https://bit.ly/457u0Rt

Need a for the school year? A sports physical helps determine whether your child can safely take part in activities like sports, cheerleading and playing in a marching band. 🏆 Many schools, recreational leagues and other organizations require a sports physical each year.

During the visit, a clinician will review your child’s medical history and complete a physical exam to look for any health concerns that could be affected by physical activity.
