KNOW YOUR NUMBERS: A1C

Do you know your A1C? 🩸

Your A1C is a blood test that reflects your average blood glucose (blood sugar) levels over the past 2–3 months. It can help identify prediabetes and diabetes and help your healthcare provider monitor your blood sugar control.

WHAT DOES YOUR A1C MEAN?

🟢 NORMAL:
Below 5.7%

🟡 PREDIABETES:
5.7%–6.4%

🔴 DIABETES:
6.5% or higher

For people who have diabetes, the ADA recommends an A1C goal of 7% or less for most adults, although your personal goal may be different based on your individual health needs. (American Diabetes Association)

WHY SHOULD YOU KNOW YOUR NUMBER?

High blood sugar over time can increase your risk for serious health complications. Knowing your A1C can help you and your healthcare team identify concerns early and make a plan to improve your health.

Talk with our healthcare providers about whether an A1C test is appropriate for you.

Knowing your numbers is an important part of knowing your health. ❤️

Stay tuned for the next post in our “Know Your Numbers” Patient Education Series!

KNOW YOUR NUMBERS 🩺👩🏻‍⚕️👩🏾‍⚕️🏥

Your health tells a story through numbers, knowing your numbers can help you take action before small problems become bigger ones!

~BLOOD PRESSURE~

Blood pressure is written as two numbers, such as 120/80 mmHg.

* Top number = Systolic: pressure in your arteries when your heart beats.
* Bottom number = Diastolic: pressure when your heart rests between beats.

Less than 120/80 ✅ Normal

120–129 / less than 80 ⚠️ Elevated

130–139 OR 80–89 🟠 Stage 1 hypertension

140+ OR 90+ 🔴 Stage 2 hypertension

Over 180 and/or 120 🚨 Severe hypertension

If you have noticed that your numbers tend to be in the elevated range, give us a call so we can discuss options!!

91% vs. 17% is why EARLY DETECTION matters!

* Nearly 159,000 Americans are expected to be diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2026, that is about 440 diagnoses every day.
* Colorectal cancer is becoming increasingly common in adults under 65; in 2026, about 45% of new cases are expected to occur in adults younger than 65.
* When colorectal cancer is found before it has spread, the 5-year relative survival is about 91%. 👍🏼👏🏼
* Once it has spread to distant parts of the body, the 5-year relative survival drops to about 17%. 😳🤯🫣
* Screening can help find cancer earlier, when it is more treatable, and some screening methods can also help prevent cancer by detecting precancerous polyps.

Colon cancer screening can save lives and screening DOESN’T ALWAYS MEAN A COLONOSCOPY!

The Shield™ blood test is a non-invasive option for colorectal cancer screening that can be done with a simple blood draw that we offer at Hope Health!

🔹 No bowel prep
🔹 No procedure or sedation
🔹 Convenient blood-based screening
🔹 Helps detect colorectal cancer in adults who are at average risk!
