Better Late Than Right-Handed! Happy Belated International Lefthanders Day! βœ‹

We may be a little late posting this, but hey… maybe we were just waiting for our left-handed friends to give us the β€œthumbs up!” πŸ‘

International Lefthanders Day, celebrated each year on August 13, is a day dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the approximately 10% of the population who proudly do things a little differently! From writing and eating to using scissors, left-handed individuals often navigate a world designed primarily for right-handed people. That is exactly why this day is so important. It celebrates the uniqueness, creativity, talents, and contributions of left-handed people while also bringing awareness to the everyday challenges they may experience.

So today even if we are fashionably late, Person Family Medical Center, Inc. is proud to say that several amazing members of our work family are left-handed John Illsley, PA-C , Kelly Welsh, Office Manager, Human Resources Coordinator, Lisa Yarboro, Finance Assistant, Gina Filyaw , Financial Administrator is even ambidextrous, meaning she can use both hands with impressive skill! Josh Brown, Chief Financial Officer, and Chasity Mace, Quality Improvement Coordinator, Heidi Oakley, Insurance Verfication (Dental). Whether it’s writing notes, administering care, or working behind the scenes, their abilities remind us that diversity in how we do things brings strength and creativity to our team. patients, and community members!
Keep writing outside the lines, finding your way around those right-handed desks, and proving that sometimes the left side is the right side!

Happy Belated International Lefthanders Day from PFMC!
To all our lefties: You may be left-handed, but you are definitely NOT left out!

🌟 PFMC Celebrates Our Seniors ! 🌟

On Friday, August 21, Person Family Medical Center, Inc. was proud to participate as a vendor at the Public Library in recognition of Senior Citizen Day!
Senior Citizen Day is a special occasion dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the wisdom, accomplishments, contributions, and lasting impact of older adults in our communities. Our seniors have helped shape the world and the communities we know today, and this day serves as an important reminder to honor them, appreciate their experiences, and ensure they have access to the resources, services, and support they need to live healthy, active, and fulfilling lives.
PFMC was also honored to partner with Jennifer Brown, County Extension Director & Family and Consumer Sciences, with NC Cooperative Extension for the Aging with Gusto event on Tuesday August 25,2026.
Aging with Gusto is an opportunity to encourage healthy aging by providing older adults with valuable information, resources, and education that can help support their overall health, independence, and quality of life. Events like this are important because they bring together community organizations and professionals who are committed to helping seniors remain informed, engaged, healthy, and connected to the resources available to them.
As we age, maintaining good health involves much more than simply treating illness. It includes staying active, making healthy lifestyle choices, remaining socially connected, and having access to preventive care and community resources. Programs and events such as Aging with Gusto help empower older adults with information and encouragement to continue taking an active role in their health and well-being.

PFMC truly enjoyed the opportunity to connect with members of our senior community, share information about the healthcare services and resources available through our organization, and answer questions about ways we can support their health and well-being. Events like this provide meaningful opportunities to bring people together, build connections, and remind everyone that taking care of your health is important at every stage of life.
Our older adults represent a wealth of knowledge, history, strength, and experience. They have raised families, built careers, served their communities, and paved the way for future generations. Their contributions continue to make a lasting impact, and it is important that we recognize their value and show our appreciationβ€”not only on Senior Citizen Day, but every day.

At PFMC, we are honored to serve and support seniors throughout our community. We remain committed to helping individuals of all ages access quality healthcare, valuable resources, and compassionate support close to home.
A special thank you to the Public Library, Jennifer Brown, and NC Cooperative Extension for the opportunity to partner in this meaningful event and help celebrate the amazing seniors in our community! We are grateful for partnerships that allow us to come together with a shared goal of promoting healthier individuals, stronger families, and a healthier community.
At Person Family Medical Center, Inc., we believe every generation matters and we are proud to celebrate, support, and care for our seniors!

πŸ†PFMC Awarded Active Tier Status πŸ†

The North Carolina Community Health Center Association North Carolina Community Health Center Association (NCCHCA) has announced that Person Family Medical Center is one of only five Community Health Centers in North Carolina to achieve Active Tier status in the NCCHCA Advocacy Certification Program. We share this accomplishment with Amplify Health, Black River Health Services, C.W. Williams Community Health Center, and United Health Centers.

This recognition is a reflection of the commitment, leadership, and engagement of our organization and our team. Achieving Active Tier status means that Team members from our organization participated in an advanced advocacy action involving direct and coordinated engagement with policymakers or their staff . These efforts are important because they allow us to ensure that the needs of our patients, our community, and Community Health Centers are represented at the state level.

β€œA Message from our C.E.O.”
Every day, the work being done across our Medical, Dental, Behavioral Health, Outreach, Administrative, and Support Services contributes to the strength and reputation of Person Family Medical Center. Recognition such as this reinforces that the work we are doing matters, and people are taking notice.
Congratulations to everyone who played a role in helping our organization reach this milestone.
This is also an opportunity for us to continue building on this success. NCCHCA's next institutional milestone is Advanced Tier, which requires additional advanced advocacy participation and the development of an Advocacy Core Team of five or more leaders with experience participating in and leading these efforts.
Let's continue to build on this accomplishment, remain engaged, and make sure that Person Family Medical Center continues to be a strong voice for our patients, our community, and Community Health Centers across North Carolina.

Congratulations, Team!

πŸ† Congratulations to Our OSV–MVP: Kelly Welsh! πŸ†

Person Family Medical Center, Inc. is proud to recognize Kelly Welsh, Human Resources Director as our OSV–MVP (Onsite Visit Most Valuable Player) PFMC receives grant funding that assists with keeping our Community Health Center going. The HRSA team comes in and audits the organization with a fine-tooth comb to assure we meet the requirements to continue the funding.

At PFMC, we firmly believe that when one of us succeeds, we all succeed. Every accomplishment is the result of teamwork, dedication, and the commitment of individuals across our organization. However, even the strongest teams often have that one person who helps bring everything together, keeps everyone focused, and works diligently behind the scenes to ensure that all the pieces are in place.
For this onsite visit, Kelly was that person. Her leadership, organization, dedication, and attention to detail played an important role in helping ensure that the necessary requirements were addressed and that PFMC was prepared throughout the process.
Out of 93 criteria reviewed, PFMC received only 10 findings that are being corrected to make 100% . An accomplishment that reflects the hard work and collaboration of our entire team! While this success belongs to everyone who contributed, we want to give special recognition to Kelly for the tremendous effort she put into coordinating, organizing, and helping bring the process together.
Preparing for an onsite visit requires a great deal of teamwork, communication, and commitment. From gathering documentation and reviewing requirements to ensuring that departments were prepared and expectations were met, Kelly helped guide the process and supported the team every step of the way.

Kelly, thank you for your hard work, leadership, and dedication to Person Family Medical Center, Inc. Your efforts did not go unnoticed, and we are proud to recognize you as our OSV–MVP!

Congratulations, Kelly, and congratulations to the entire PFMC team! This achievement is a reminder of what can happen when we work together toward a common goal. One team. One mission. One success. πŸ’™

πŸŽ‰πŸ† CONGRATULATIONS, JOHN ILLSLEY, PA-C! πŸ†πŸŽ‰

Person Family Medical Center, Inc. is incredibly proud to congratulate John Illsley, PA-C, on being named the recipient of the 2026 Wilburn Supply Company Community Health Center Hero Award!

This prestigious award recognizes an individual who truly embodies the mission and spirit of a Community Health Centerβ€”someone whose compassion, dedication, leadership, and commitment to serving others make a meaningful and lasting difference in the lives of patients, coworkers, and the community. A Community Health Center Hero represents the very best of community healthcare by going beyond their job responsibilities to ensure that every person is treated with dignity, respect, compassion, and exceptional care.

John is truly deserving of this recognition. Every day, John demonstrates what it means to care for others with both skill and heart. He consistently goes above and beyond to ensure that his patients receive exceptional, patient-centered care. He takes the time to listen, educate, encourage, and empower patients to become active participants in their own healthcare journey. His calm presence and thoughtful approach help patients feel valued, understood, and supported.

One of the many ways John has made a lasting impact on our community is through his leadership of our Diabetes Education Program. Through this program, he dedicates his time and expertise to helping patients better understand diabetes management, make healthier choices, and improve their overall quality of life. But John’s commitment does not stop when the class ends. Each month, he personally purchases healthy snacks out of his own pocket so participants can not only learn about healthier choices but also experience them firsthand. This thoughtful gesture is just one example of the genuine care and personal investment John has in the success and well-being of those he serves.

John’s dedication to his patients is also deeply personal. Through his own experiences navigating health challenges within his family, John has developed an even greater level of empathy and understanding for the patients and families he serves. He understands that behind every diagnosis is a personβ€”and often an entire familyβ€”facing challenges, fears, questions, and hopes. This perspective allows John to provide care that is not only medically excellent but also compassionate, personal, and understanding.

Beyond his clinical responsibilities, John is a trusted teammate, mentor, and source of encouragement at PFMC. He is always willing to support his coworkers, share his knowledge, and step in wherever he is needed. His professionalism, humility, positive attitude, and servant’s heart inspire those around him and help strengthen our entire organization.

Community Health Centers exist to provide quality, compassionate healthcare to individuals and families, regardless of their circumstances. John Illsley, PA-C, lives out that mission every single day.His work extends far beyond treating illness and the four walls of Person Family Medical Center. He builds relationships, promotes wellness, educates patients, encourages healthier lifestyles, and creates meaningful connections that make a difference throughout our community.

For his unwavering commitment to compassionate care, patient education, wellness, and community service, John truly represents the heart of a Community Health Center Hero.

Please join us in congratulating John Illsley, PA-C, on receiving the 2026 Wilburn Supply Company Community Health Center Hero Award! We are proud, grateful, and honored to have you as part of the Person Family Medical Center family.

John your compassion, dedication, and servant leadership continue to make a difference one patient, one family, and one life at a time.

This past Saturday, August 15, 2026, Person Family Medical Center (PFMC) was honored to serve as a vendor at the TKO Back-to-School Giveaway held at Huck Sandsbury Recreation Complex. We were thrilled to join community partners, organizations, and volunteers in supporting local families as they prepare for a successful school year.
This incredible event was created with one important goal in mind to ensure that every child in our community has access to the essential supplies and resources needed to start the school year prepared and confident. Events like these help ease the financial burden on families while reminding our children that their community is invested in their success.
This year was especially meaningful as TKO celebrated 10 years of providing this amazing community event. For a decade, TKO has worked tirelessly to bring families together, provide valuable resources, and create opportunities for children to begin the school year on a positive note.
The event was completely FREE to the public and offered something for everyone! Families enjoyed an abundance of delicious food, including hot dogs, barbecue, chicken, pizza, a variety of desserts, and refreshing drinks. Attendees also had the opportunity to participate in raffles, win exciting prizes, and visit numerous community vendors. Each vendor contributed to the fun by offering giveaways, prizes, and valuable information about services available throughout our community.
PFMC enjoyed meeting so many wonderful families, sharing information about our healthcare services, and connecting community members with resources that support healthy lives and healthy futures. We believe that when communities come together to support our children, everyone benefits.
A special thank you to TKO and all the volunteers, sponsors, vendors, and community partners who made this milestone event possible. Congratulations on 10 years of making a difference in the lives of local children and families!

🌟 Celebrating Our Amazing Student Leaders! 🌟

At Person Family Medical Center, Inc., we are incredibly proud to celebrate the accomplishments of some of the outstanding young people who have been part of the PFMC family!
This summer, we have had the privilege of watching Alivia Ragland and Nakyiah Stewart, our two Lead students, grow, learn, lead, and make a meaningful impact through their work and dedication.
πŸ‘ Alivia Ragland has been gaining valuable experience in our Dental Department, where she has had the opportunity to learn more about the dental field, interact with our amazing dental team, and experience firsthand what it means to serve patients and our community.
πŸ‘ Nakyiah Stewart has been making her mark in our Outreach/Marketing Department, where she has been able to experience the many ways we connect with our community, promote health and wellness, and help people learn about the resources and services available through PFMC.
We were honored to celebrate both students at The Lead Sneaker ball Semi-Formal Celebration, a special occasion recognizing their hard work, growth, leadership, and accomplishments. Jennifer Daye, Outreach/Marketing Director and Community Health Worker, was grateful and honored to attend and have the opportunity to be on the sidelines cheering these young ladies on. There is something truly special about watching students reach milestones, step into their potential, and celebrate the accomplishments they have worked so hard to achieve. We are thankful to have been there to witness such a memorable moment in their journey.
And we are excited to also recognize Angelina Magana, who served as an Outreach/Marketing Department intern this summer!
