“Aging is not ‘lost youth’ but a new stage of opportunity and strength.” – Betty Friedan

September is Healthy Aging Month and this year’s theme, “Curiosity Has No Age Limit,” encourages older adults to keep learning, moving, and connecting. Whittier offers coordinated geriatric primary care, fitness classes, walking groups, peer social sessions, cooking classes, behavioral health support, and access to our Food Pantry and Community Garden – all located at the Frederica M. Williams Building at 1290 Tremont Street, Roxbury.

“Sometimes the smallest step in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life” – Naeem Callaway

September is both National Recovery Month and Su***de Prevention Month – a time to recognize the toll that mental health and substance abuse orders take on individuals, families, and communities. At Whittier Street Health Center September is also a month of hope as we affirm that recovery is possible and su***de prevention is a shared responsibility.

Our “It Takes a Village” campaign addresses the opioid crisis and mental health issues and honors those on their recovery journey while acknowledging the urgent reality of su***de, which in 2024 claimed nearly 49,000 lives in this country.

Join us on September 16th from 12-1:30 PM at the Frederica M. Williams Building, 1290 Tremont Street, Roxbury for our annual “It Takes a Village” event – a community gathering focused on
overdose prevention, recovery support, and stories of hope.

What an incredible day at Whittier Street Health Center’s Back to School BBQ! From backpacks and school supplies to great food, fun, music, and smiles all around for close to 500 students—our community showed up in full force.

We’re proud to support our young scholars as they head into a new school year feeling prepared, confident, and cared for.
A special thank you to the Boston Fire Department Cadet Program volunteers, along with our staff, who made this event so special.
