Larry P. Hood

If you have known a really good man in your life you are indeed blessed. We lost one of those really good men October 11, 2026. Larry Paul Hood was born February 1936 to Walker and Lottie Hood and his older brother, Jack. He grew up trapping mink, playing on a farm and getting into mischief. After high school he worked in the produce department of Standard Foods until he went to Barber school in Indianapolis. It was about this time he also met his sweetheart, Phyllis. They were married in 1959 and lived in Logansport their entire married lives. Larry was a barber for over fifty years at his own shop. He could also be found caretaking for a cemetery, selling insurance, selling headstones, sawing down trees, or doing just about any odd job to help make ends meet. He was a hard worker, loved the Lord and wasn’t one to need attention drawn to himself. Because of that he would often plow a driveway or mow a lawn in the very early morning hours before anyone was up or when someone was gone to help others, or he would be around to help anyone with whatever they needed—a ride to the airport or taken to a doctor appointment or help fixing something. He was an integral part in the churches he attended. He had a servant’s heart. He was a good friend. He was a great dad, father-in-law, and an even better grandpa. He loved wood working and every one of his family members (and more) have something he either created or made especially for them at their request. He was a no-nonsense guy that somehow blended that quality and his soft heart in a way that got things done and you knew you were loved at the same time. He thought more of others than himself. He taught the boys of the family how to be a man and the girls what kind of man to look for. He loved chocolate covered peanuts and peanut m and ms and popcorn and was always willing to share. To know him was to love him and know he loved you too. He was dad to Shawna (Scott) Wilson, Larry Brian (Lisa) Hood, and Jill (Kent) Cobbs. He was grandpa to 8 and great-grandpa to 14 all who survive him. He is also survived by his wife Phyllis, brother Jack and many nieces and nephews. He was a blessing to all. Psalm 116:15 Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, October 15, 2026 at Rans Funeral Homes & Crematory, Marocco Chapel, 119 E. Market St., Logansport.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

Burial will follow at Galveston Cemetery.

Alice L. Ulm

On Saturday, October 10th, 2026, Alice L. Ulm, 75 of Winamac passed away peacefully after a sudden illness at the home of and under the care of her best friend and fellow nurse Janet, in Winamac, IN.

Born on March 17, 1951 in Winamac, she was the daughter of the late James and Laura (Bowers) Ulm.

She was a long-time resident of the Winamac area, and a graduate of Winamac High School.

After graduation, she joined the United States Marines and later earned a Master’s degree in Nursing from Valparaiso University. She worked as a registered nurse for over 40 years and was most recently employed at Hickory Creek of Winamac. Alice worked in many areas of nursing, but her heart was always in Emergency Medicine. She was a staunch, faithful patient advocate and always looked out for her patients’ best interests.

Alice is survived by her brother, Daniel Ulm of Winamac and best friend, Janet Asel of Winamac. She is also survived by her beloved dogs, Dakoda and Enzo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Laura (Bowers) Ulm, and her brothers James Ulm and Richard Hawkins.

Alice was an avid animal lover who enjoyed taking care of her dogs, cats and horses. It was not uncommon for her to stop on the side of the road to help a turtle in crossing the street or to pick up a stray in need of assistance. She once wrestled with a particularly spirited – and large–snapping turtle that was fairly confident that it did not need her assistance, but assist it she did anyway; the stubborn woman carefully moving the equally stubborn turtle across the road.

When you met Alice, you either loved her or you didn’t– and she would let you know, in no uncertain terms, exactly how she herself felt about you as well! If you were accepted into her circle, and you needed something, she would help you no matter what it took. Alice was a steadfast friend to all who earned her loyalty. She will be deeply missed.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Wednesday, October 14, 2026 at Rans Funeral Homes & Crematory, Winamac Chapel.

Private graveside services will be at Pulaski Presbyterian Cemetery in Pulaski.

The family and her friends would like to extend their gratitude to Gentiva Hospice, especially Beth and Tiffany.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to any animal shelter in memory of Alice and her love of animals.

The Roller Family graciously decided to display their father's 1949 H and his 1952 Super M for his visitation this evening. Rest in Peace Richard.
