John 4:1-42 The woman at the well.
How many have heard that parable before? Jesus asks the Samaritan woman for water and she is puzzled by this because He is a Jew and she is a Samaritan. Then He tells her about the living water. She wants it and He tells her to have her husband come there also. (Verse 16) She tells him she has no husband. Let's just sit with this for a minute. I imagine not having a husband in those days was looked down upon. A woman alone. But she was honest with Jesus. And this was before she even realized who He was! In verse 25-26 we see then she is told who He is.

Backup a bit. Remember she said she had no husband? Then Jesus said that was the truth, she had 5 husbands and the one she was with now wasn't her husband! Maybe she was living with him? Even then, she was used by God. We see in verse 39 that many Samaritans believed in Jesus because of the Samaritan woman's testimony. This was only possible because this woman was known to be a truthful woman. Even in her own sin, she was truthful.

I wonder how many of us are truthful? God already knows the truth but do we speak the truth to others? If you are asked something, are you honest or do you say something that sways people into believing what you want them to believe? Or doing what you want them to do?

On a personal note, I know I struggle with showing emotions and connecting with people. It can take me years to feel safe enough with someone to do this. But I pray I am always truthful like the Samaritan woman and can be used by God wherever I am.
My prayer today is we each examine our hearts and ask God to give us truth. And that He will use us for His glory, even in the midst of our sin. Amen!!
