We’re talking reading this morning! 📚

Courtney and Chelsea are joining Feedback at 9:05 to share more about Launch Therapy Clinic and why we’ve expanded our services to include reading intervention.

So many families come to us because they know their child is struggling, but they aren’t always sure where to start. Reading can be one of those areas. When reading or spelling feels harder than it should, the answer isn’t always “just practice more.” Sometimes we need to slow down, identify where the breakdown is happening, and give a child the right kind of instruction and support.

We’re excited to share more about what reading intervention looks like at Launch, how we work alongside families and other professionals, and when it may be time to seek additional support.

Therapy isn’t just about what happens during a session. It’s about giving parents the confidence, understanding, and practical tools to know how to support their child in everyday life.

Because you shouldn’t have to figure it all out on your own.

💬 “Will AAC keep my child from talking?”

The answer may surprise you.

AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) includes tools and strategies that help individuals communicate more effectively. AAC can range from simple picture systems to high-tech speech-generating devices.

For many children, AAC doesn’t replace speech. It supports communication while speech and language skills continue to develop.

Children who may benefit from AAC include those who:
🗣️ Have difficulty expressing their wants and needs
🗣️ Become frustrated when others don’t understand them
🗣️ Have limited verbal communication
🗣️ Need support participating at home, school, or in the community
🗣️ Have diagnoses that impact communication development

Communication is more than spoken words. Every child deserves a way to share their thoughts, ideas, feelings, and personality with the world around them.

“We’re finally back to reading books again.”

A parent recently shared this with us after her child started reading intervention and THAT is the kind of progress that matters.

When reading is hard, kids often start avoiding it.

They may:

* dread reading homework
* guess at unfamiliar words
* become frustrated quickly
* lose confidence
* stop choosing books they once enjoyed

The goal of reading intervention isn’t simply to help a child get through harder words.

It’s to identify the skills that are making reading difficult and provide explicit, individualized instruction to build those skills so reading can start to feel more manageable.

And sometimes one of the best signs of progress isn’t a test score.

It’s a child picking up a book again!

Several years ago, Oliver’s family was handed a diagnosis filled with uncertainty. They heard words like significant support needed, limited communication, and may never...

But what they did next made all the difference.

They showed up.
They advocated.
They believed in their son.

And Oliver showed the world what determination, hard work, and the right support can accomplish.

We’ve had the privilege of working alongside Oliver and his family as he continued to grow, overcome challenges, and reach goals that once felt far away. Watching that progress unfold has been incredibly rewarding.

Today, he is thriving. He is learning alongside his peers, becoming increasingly independent, and proving that progress is about so much more than meeting milestones!

Graduation from therapy isn’t the end of the story. It’s a celebration of goals achieved, skills gained, and the incredible teamwork between a child, their family, and their therapists.

We couldn’t be more proud. Thank you for letting us be a small part of your journey.

Did you know one of the most powerful tools for helping a child learn isn’t a worksheet… it’s their nervous system?

One of our favorite books in the lobby right now is Buc-ee Goes to School! 🦫💙 Throughout the story, Buc-ee learns to use deep breathing when his body feels overwhelmed—a strategy our therapists frequently teach!

Deep breathing does more than help a child “calm down.” It activates the parasympathetic nervous system (our body’s “rest and regulate” system), helping to:
🌿 Slow heart rate
🌿 Reduce stress hormones
🌿 Improve attention and focus
🌿 Support emotional regulation
🌿 Prepare the brain for learning

When a child’s body feels safe and regulated, the brain is better able to pay attention, solve problems, communicate, and learn new skills.

At Launch, we don’t just teach children what to do—we help them understand how to recognize what their body needs and build the regulation strategies that work for them. Sometimes that looks like deep breathing. Other times it’s movement, heavy work, sensory input, or individualized nervous system supports. Every child is different, and our therapists help find the right fit.
