💚💛 NAMI Ruston Promoting Mental Health Awareness in Our Community! 💚💛

Grambling State University nursing students, along with their instructor and NAMI Ruston Board Member, Dr. Kendra McMurray, proudly represented NAMI Ruston at the Health & Hope Gatherings Community Health Fair, held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at the Grambling State University Intramural Center.

The event, hosted by the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church of Ruston Health & Wellness Ministry, in collaboration with Grambling State University and LifeShare Blood Center, brought community members together for health screenings, education, wellness resources, and meaningful connections.

The nursing students provided valuable educational information and resources on depression, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and recognizing the signs and symptoms of mental health conditions. Their participation emphasized the importance of early identification, mental health awareness, and connecting individuals and families with supportive resources.

A special thank you to Dr. Kendra McMurray and the GSU nursing students for their commitment to community engagement, mental health education, and advocacy.

We also extend our appreciation to New Hope Missionary Baptist Church and its Health & Wellness Ministry for organizing this meaningful event and providing an opportunity to promote health, healing, and hope throughout our community.

We extend our sincere appreciation to everyone who attended the NAMI Ruston FaithNet Forum, "Trauma, Trauma, and More Trauma: Intergenerational Trauma and Wholistic Living," featuring Dr. Ilyon M. Jenkins-Collins, Ed.D., PLPC.

Thank you for taking the time to learn, engage, and participate in meaningful conversations about intergenerational trauma, healing, emotional wellness, and the importance of wholistic living.

A special thank you to Dr. Collins for sharing her knowledge, expertise, and valuable insights on understanding trauma, breaking generational cycles, and promoting healing within individuals, families, and communities.
