Winnie Sue Elliott, age 90, of Rutherfordton, died Thursday, July 30, 2026, at her home.

She was the daughter of the late George Holler and the late Sue Barnes Holler and a native of Concord N. C. Winnie retired from Southern Bell Telephone in the engineering department after 34 years of service. She loved her family and she loved to travel. Winnie is the widow of the late Edgar Elliott; she was also preceded in death by her sisters; Nancy Urkart, Mary Helen Frazier and a step brother Kenneth Kiser. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Rutherfordton.

She is survived by her nephew Allen Frazier and niece Wanda Heffernan.

The Graveside service will be at Green Hill Baptist Church Cemetery at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, August 4, 2026 with Reverend Tim Marsh officiating . Interment will be at Green Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Saint Jude Childrens Hospital online at stjude.org/memorial. McMahan's Funeral Home & Crematory in charge of arrangements.

Charles Orville Stamey, Jr., 76, of Union Mills, NC, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2026, at his home.

A native of Rutherford County, Charles, was the son of the late C.O. Sr. and Barbara Jean Stamey. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by one son, Charles Wesley Stamey, and two brothers, David and Bobby Stamey.

Charles is survived by his two children, his daughter, Traci Young, and his son, Tony D. Stamey (Sabrinia), his sister, Linda Martin, his brother, Scott Stamey, and three grandchildren.

In accordance with Charles' wishes there will be no formal services. McMahan's Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of cremation arrangements.

Ruth Keeter Lovelace, age 87, of Rutherfordton, NC, died Sunday, July 19, 2026, at Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills .

Ruth was the daughter of the late Rosell Keeter and Maggie Lowery Keeter and a native of Union County, NC. She was also preceded in death by her husband Kenneth F. Lovelace and her brothers Robert Keeter, Henry Keeter and Willie Keeter. She was a member of Cane Creek Baptist Church and attended Fork Creek Baptist Church.

Ruth is survived by her two twin daughters:

Patricia Adams (Ricky) of Rutherfordton, NC and Vickie Lovelace of Panama City, FL.

Two Sons: Roger Lovelace of Rutherfordton and Boyd Lovelace of Forest City.

One Sister: Daisy Keeter Laughter and a dear friend Lisa Moore of Panama City, FL.

Ten Grandchildren

Thirty-one Great-Grandchildren

Five Great-Great-Grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at McMahan's Funeral Home. Roberta Isabella Taut, age 76, of Pineville, NC, died Friday, July 10, 2026, at Upstate Community Hospice House in Landrum, SC.

Roberta was born on August 5, 1949, to the late Richard Stohrer and Isabella Stohrer. A native of Doylestown, Pennsylvania, she pursued her passion for art, earning a bachelor’s degree and building a career as a freelance artist. In addition to her parents, Roberta was preceded in death by her sister, Emma Schectman.

Roberta is survived by her sister, Martha Stohrer Golden and her husband Eric.

In accordance with Roberta's wishes there will be no formal service.

McMahan's Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the cremation arrangements.

Diana Jean Greathouse, age 78, of Rutherfordton, NC, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 5, 2026, at Wendover Hospice House in Shelby, NC.

Diana was the daughter of the late Lloyd Lester and the late Dessa Lea Lester Edwards and a native of Baltimore Maryland. Diana was also preceded in death by her stepfather, Hoyle Edwards. Diana was a graduate of Patapsco High School class of 1965. She had a caring heart and compassionate spirit that showed throughout her dedicated career as an art teacher. Diana loved and collected art and stained glass. She loved the Lord and helped establish a Christian School in Maryland and was a pioneer of a new church in Maryland.

She is survived by her loving and caring husband of 61 years: Stan Greathouse, one daughter: Terri Herndon and her husband David of Duncan, SC, two grandchildren: Matthew Allan Herndon and Rebekah Lea Herndon, one brother, David Lloyd Lester and his wife Charlene, and one sister: Sharon Lorber and her husband George.

The family will receive friends Thursday, July 9, 2026, at McMahan's Funeral Home from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. The funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 9, 2026, at McMahan's Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Dr. Keith Stephenson officiating. Interment will follow at the Rutherfordton City Cemetery. After the service the family will be gathered at Second Baptist Church's Family Life Center. Louise Cole Allison, age 82, of the Green Creek Community, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Louise was born on August 29, 1943, to the late Ben and Ollis Cole. A native of Polk County, she was a devoted member of Green River Baptist Church, where she faithfully shared her gift of music as the church pianist for 67 years. Louise dedicated 37 years of service to Stonecutter Mills and later served her community through 10 years of work at the Senior Center. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas “Tommy” Edward Allison, and her sister, Iris Bashore.

Louise is survived by her daughter, Jill A. Pritchard (Shane), two grandchildren, Caleb Smith, and Brianna Smith, one great-granddaughter, Elena Grace Francis, and a niece and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM, Sunday, July 5, 2026, at Green River Baptist Church. The funeral service will be at Green River Baptist Church at 3:30 PM, Sunday, July 5, 2026, with Reverend Gary Curtis officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Ethel Miller Davis, 83, of Rutherfordton, NC went to be with the Lord and was reunited with her infant daughter and her parents on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at Hospice House of the Carolinas Foothills.

Born on February 9, 1943, Ethel was the daughter of the late Hugh and Gladys Miller. As a member of Kistler's Chapel Methodist Church, she was known for her caring heart, steadfast faith, and willingness to serve others. Whether through a kind word, a heartfelt prayer, or a comforting meal, Ethel ministered to those around her with love and compassion. She was often described as a prayer warrior and faithfully directed the church's prayer connection ministry.

Ethel met her husband Emmett at Harris High School and later studied biology while at Appalachian State University. Ethel and Emmett were married and later moved to Raleigh, NC. During that time, Ethel led research in the isotope laboratory within the Biochemistry Department at NC State University while Emmett completed his degree. She later completed her degree in education at Gardner-Webb University.

A devoted and nurturing mother, she poured her heart into enriching her children’s lives. From managing a bustling schedule of sports, music, and church activities to hosting lively sleepovers for friends, she created a beautiful home filled with warmth and hospitality. She took immense pride in ensuring her family was always well-cared for, weaving magic into every holiday and instilling lifelong values of health, nutrition, and vibrant new experiences. An avid gardener with a true green thumb, Ethel excelled at cultivating beautiful flowers and abundant vegetables. She found great joy in reading, was an exceptional cook, and possessed a talent for sewing, beautifully crafting many of her children’s clothes during their youth. Above all, Ethel’s compassionate spirit shone brightest in her parents' later years, as she lovingly and selflessly cared for them through extended illnesses.

In addition to her parents, Ethel was preceded in death by her daughter, Paige Elizabeth Davis. Left to cherish Ethel's memory are her loving husband of 62 years, Emmett J. Davis, Jr.; her son Emmett “Jay” Davis III; her daughter, Susan Rebecca Davis Chapman, and husband Mike Chapman, and her three grandchildren, Annabelle Chapman, Tripp Chapman, and Boone Chapman.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Kistler's Chapel Methodist Church. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Kistler's Chapel Methodist Church, with Chaplain Ron Gibson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Renay Reep, age 70, of Union Mills, NC, died Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at Hilltop Health & Rehabilitation in Rutherfordton, NC.

She was the daughter of the late Ken Bowman and the late Frankie Bowman and a native of Catawba County. Renay enjoyed teaching school at the School of Deaf in Morganton N C and later at Mountain View Elementary School in Hickory N C.

She is survived by her loving husband of 18 years : Mike Hord. One Daughter: Kelsey Reep (Zack Kampf) Three Sons: John Reep, Nic Reep (Katie), Ben Reep. Two step-sons: Bryan Hord and Dr. Brandon Hord. Five Grandchildren and one brother Alan Bowman (Teresa).

There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of The Carolina Foothills; P O Box 336; Forest City, NC 28043.

Sharon Marie Reader Cunningham

Sharon Marie Reader Cunningham, 87, of Cane Creek, Union Mills, North Carolina, passed away on June 17, 2026. She was born to Robert and Mary Dyer Reader, July 25, 1938 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Sharon spent her life as a homemaker and traveling with her husband, Robert Cunningham. They met and married in New York, raised their children in florida, and retired in North Carolina. She loved reading and working with animals.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Cunningham; her parents; and her sister, Carol Sue Reader.

She is survived by her children, Robert Cunningham II and Stephani Cunningham Ruppe and her husband, Anthony; her grandchildren, Katelynn Ruppe, Gwendolyn Earls and her husband, Jeremiah, Evelynn Ruppe; her great-grandson, John-Daniel Earls; her niece and nephews, Heather Youngs, Eric Youngs, James Cunningham and his wife, Mary, John Cunningham and his wife, Holly, and Jay Cunningham and his wife, Beth; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

There will be a private celebration of life

Sharon Lynn Sharar, age 71, of Rutherfordton, North Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.

A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Sharon was born on November 17, 1954, to the late Melvin and Dot Selasky. With two Bachelor’s degrees and a Master’s Degree in Education, she spent her career teaching mathematics at Asheville High School in Asheville, NC, where her students were her life. She loved making a difference and seeing her students succeed. She found great joy in gardening, a passion that was central to her life. In recent years, she also became an avid reader. She loved her morning devotional readings and paperback novels. Sharon enjoyed cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers, the FSU Seminoles, and watching golf, pastimes that brought her much pleasure.

Sharon is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Stephen T. “Tom” Sharar; and her brother, Mark Selasky and his wife, Janas. Nephews Nicholas Selasky, Patrick Smith and nieces Kylie and Emily Smith.

A celebration of life will be held by the family Monday, July 13, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Second Baptist Church of Rutherfordton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105. McMahan’s Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of cremation arrangements.
