✨ PCOS HAS A NEW NAME: PMOS ✨
And this change is about so much more than just letters. 💜
For years, many people living with PCOS felt misunderstood by the name itself. The term “Polycystic O***y Syndrome” made it sound like the condition was ONLY about ovarian cysts or fertility… when in reality, it affects the entire body. 🩺🧠🫀
That’s why, after years of international research and advocacy, experts announced a new name in 2026:
➡️ PMOS :Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome
This updated name better reflects what patients and healthcare providers have known for years: PMOS is a complex hormonal and metabolic condition that can impact much more than the ovaries.
💡 WHAT DOES PMOS MEAN?
✨ Polyendocrine
This condition can involve multiple hormone systems throughout the body.
✨ Metabolic
PMOS is strongly connected to insulin resistance, blood sugar regulation, weight fluctuations, inflammation, and metabolism.
✨ Ovarian
It can still affect ovulation, menstrual cycles, fertility, and reproductive health.
✨ Syndrome
A group of symptoms and health effects that can vary from person to person.
🚨 IMPORTANT: Not everyone with PCOS/PMOS actually has ovarian cysts.
And having ovarian cysts alone does NOT automatically mean someone has PMOS.
💜 COMMON SYMPTOMS MAY INCLUDE: • Irregular or absent periods
• Difficulty ovulating or infertility
• Acne or oily skin
• Excess facial/body hair
• Hair thinning or hair loss
• Weight changes
• Insulin resistance
• Fatigue
• Anxiety or depression
🩺 WHAT STAYS THE SAME? The diagnostic criteria and current treatments remain the same for now while medical guidelines continue updating.
At Capitol Imaging Inc, we know how emotional and frustrating this journey can feel for many patients. Whether you’re navigating infertility, hormone imbalances, pelvic pain, irregular cycles, or simply searching for answers — you deserve compassionate care and to feel heard. 🤍
Ultrasound plays an important role in evaluating ovarian appearance, follicle count, pelvic anatomy, and reproductive health, but PMOS is much more than what we see on imaging alone. It’s a whole-body condition that deserves a whole-person approach. 🌸
