From age 6 to high school graduationāsome of my patients grow up right before my eyes.
Today, Iām celebrating Flynn.
I first met Flynn when he was just 6 years old, sitting in my exam chair for an eye exam. Now, heās graduating from high school and heading off to college. Watching him grow from a little boy into a remarkable young man has been one of the many gifts of my profession.
People often think optometry is about helping patients see clearly, and of course it is. But what has always meant the most to me is being part of peopleās lives and witnessing their milestones along the way.
Over the years, Iāve had the privilege of helping a 60-year-old mom return to contact lenses so she could clearly see her daughter walk down the aisle.
Iāve helped teenagers learn to wear contacts after years of hearing Mom remind them to put on their glassesābringing smiles and a little relief to both mother and daughter.
Iāve celebrated first driverās licenses, graduations, new jobs, weddings, babies, and so many special moments in between.
We help people see, but we also help them experience lifeās most meaningful moments.
As graduation season comes to a close, congratulations to all the graduates pursuing their dreams and beginning new adventures.
A special congratulations to Flynn as he starts this exciting next chapter at Cal Poly SLO .
And to my own daughter, who is graduating from 8th grade this yearāI am so proud of you and all that lies ahead. Also to Dr Belmonteās son who graduated from high school!
Thank you to all the families who have trusted me with their eye care through the years. Watching your children grow up, and sharing in your lifeās milestones, is one of the greatest joys and privileges of being an optometrist.
