Each summer, campers between ages 7-17 from across the western United States gather at Camp Winning Hands, an inclusive and empowering camp designed for children with congenital hand and upper limb differences. 🙌🦾
We proudly partner with UCSF Benioff Children’s to organize this unique camp, hosted by the generous Taylor Family Foundation. Kids at Camp Winning Hands are empowered by the experience of camping in an environment where they feel protected and encouraged. 🏕️

We had very special guests at the hospital today- Denzel Clarke and Zack Gelof from Athletics! 💚⚾️
Denzel and Zack spent the morning playing with patients in our GUM Activity Pavilion, signing A’s bucket hats, and learning about the world-class care we provide! They even made a special visit to our ICU to say hello to our patients who couldn’t make the trip downstairs. Stomper even came by to say hello! 💝
Thank you Denzel, Zack, Stomper, and the whole Athletics team for coming by and making the day extra special for our patients! Go A’s! 🙌

Adan’s whole world changed after becoming a burn survivor. Playing the guitar became a positive coping mechanism and one of his main therapy goals at Shriners Children’s. ❤️
With the help of music therapist Ronnie and his rehabilitation therapists, Adan worked to learn how to play the guitar in an adaptive manner to meet his needs. Thanks to Little Wishes™, Adan now has a replacement for his broken guitar back home and is able to bring music and joy with him wherever he goes! 💚

We were so excited to welcome Zach Pickett back to Shriners Children’s Northern California, this time as a patient alumni! 🙌
Zach is a national and internationally decorated table tennis champion, currently on the US Para National team with aspirations for LA 2028! He and his family spent an afternoon in our GUM Pavilion teaching patients how to play table tennis. They also generously donated the table so more kids can play during their visits! 🏓

Elias is going home after months of halo traction and spine care! 🎉
Halo traction is typically a first step in correcting severe scoliosis, kyphosis, and other spine deformities. Children remain in the hospital the entire time they are in traction, typically three to eight weeks. After halo traction, children usually have spinal fusion surgery to permanently stabilize the spine. Halo traction reduces the risk of damaging the nerves or soft tissues that surround and support the spine during surgery. 💡

After being diagnosed at 10 years old and not seeing any progress with Rigo-Cheneau bracing, a referral to Shriners Children’s Northern California changed everything for Cora and her family. 🩻
Now, she is back to competitive dancing, just finished her reign as Jr. Miss El Dorado County, and is our newest Patient Ambassador! 🙌
Though Scoliosis Awareness Month is over, education, prevention and treatment don't! At Shriners Children’s, our pediatric orthopedic specialists treat more than 10,000 children with scoliosis each year! 💝
