Our pediatric patients recently had some pretty special teammates cheering them on. ⚾💙 Sacramento River Cats players and Dinger stopped by Sutter Medical Center's Children’s Center for a day filled with arts and crafts, smiles and connection. Even our Sutter facility dogs joined in on the fun! Days like this bring comfort and joy to our young patients when they need it most. Thank you to the River Cats for making the day so memorable!

Some very special visitors came slithering, hopping and soaring through Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento 🦘🦉🐊

SeaWorld San Diego brought a little wildlife magic to our young patients with visits from a kangaroo, owl, alligator, porcupine, snake and more. From up-close encounters to learning about conservation from animal experts, the experience made for a wildly memorable day filled with smiles, curiosity and connection.

Thank you to and the animal care teams for helping create such meaningful moments for our patients and families. 💙

💛 Supporting healthy beginnings — one connection at a time. 💛

During Kangaroo Care Month, Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento is proud to highlight the power of skin-to-skin contact in supporting infants and families.

Kangaroo care is an evidence-based practice where a baby is placed directly on a caregiver’s chest, helping promote bonding, regulate heart rate and breathing, and support breastfeeding and healthy development. For our smallest and most vulnerable patients, including those in the NICU, these moments can make a profound difference in recovery, growth and long-term health outcomes.

At Sutter, we’re committed to care that is both clinically excellent and deeply human — supporting families through connection, compassion and every step of the newborn journey.

Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento, was proud to represent Sutter Health at the 2026 Breastfeeding Celebration & Milk Drive: Nourish & Bloom at Howe Park. 🌺

The event brought together families, community partners and local organizations to support parents, infants and the life-saving benefits of breastfeeding and human milk donation — especially for premature and medically fragile babies.

Through education and connection, the day highlighted what’s possible when we work together to provide coordinated, compassionate care.

Thank you to everyone who helped make it meaningful. 💙

💙 A special milestone for Bernardo 💙

We’re happy to share an update on Bernardo, whose story many may remember from February.

After another heart surgery, Bernardo was able to go home on Friday, April 3, just in time to celebrate Easter with his family. This milestone follows a successful Glenn procedure and recovery, marking an important step in his ongoing heart care.

Bernardo’s care reflects the teamwork between Pediatric Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery and the Pediatric Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (Peds CVICU) at Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento. From surgery through recovery and discharge planning, a dedicated team supported him every step of the way.

The Peds CVICU team was especially happy to see Bernardo go home. This moment reflects the impact of teamwork, clinical skill and patient-centered care.

We’re grateful to Bernardo’s family for sharing this update and allowing us to celebrate this milestone with them.

Ziva was born with a ventricular septal defect – a hole in her heart.

Diagnosed before birth while her family was in India, Ziva’s parents were told they were lucky she’d be born in the U.S. because she would receive world-class specialized care. They got that care at Sutter Children’s Center, where Pediatric Heart Surgeon Dr. Teimour Nasirov helped repair her heart and save her life.

“They’re not only fixing hearts, they’re performing miracles.”

Now, through Global Heart Care, Dr. Nasirov and other medical volunteers are making stories like Ziva’s possible everywhere. FOX40 shares how the Global Heart Care team travels thousands of miles overseas to bring life-saving heart surgeries to young patients across the globe. https://bit.ly/4tnk7sS

We were delighted to welcome award-winning author Renée Watson to Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento!

Her visit was part of the “Words Take Wing” program, hosted by the UC Davis School of Education, and in partnership with Sutter, she read to pediatric patients at their bedside and in Sophie's Place, bringing creativity, comfort and joy to kids who otherwise wouldn’t be able to attend events like this.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this special visit possible. 💙
