Sometimes protecting your peace means saying no, setting a boundary, or making a choice others may not understand.

You can be kind and still have boundaries.
You can love people and still say no.
And you can disappoint someone without doing something wrong.

Healthy doesn’t always make everyone happy.

Gaslighting can happen in Christian relationships too. Using God, Scripture, forgiveness, or submission to make someone question what they experienced does not make manipulation spiritual.

If you feel confused, hurt, or uneasy in these situations, your feelings are valid, and questioning harmful behavior is a healthy response—not a sign of weak faith.

Truth does not require you to deny reality, excuse harmful behavior, or silence your concerns.

Marriage doesn’t require perfection, but it should include respect, safety, loyalty, honesty, and room to grow. These aren’t unrealistic expectations—they’re part of building a healthy, lasting relationship.

Healthy love doesn’t ask you to settle for less than mutual care and respect.

These are the days we’ll one day wish we could have back. I’m going to cherish them while they’re here. ❤️❤️

This is my mother, Sheila.

She endured an abusive marriage for 20 years and, after six children, found the courage to leave. I was only five years old.

The aftermath was not easy. We faced uncertainty, financial hardship, and the challenge of starting over. But staying would have cost far more.

When I write my “This Is Abuse” posts, it isn’t from theory. Abuse has a face, a name, a story—and for me, it was my mother.

I’m grateful she chose to leave. Her decision changed the course of our family and fuels my passion to help others recognize abuse, find hope, and believe that freedom is possible.

Sometimes the first step toward healing is recognizing that what you’ve been calling love… isn’t.
