It takes an entire community to create lasting change -- and this week, ACAC is proud to spotlight community partner #4 in our series of organizations making a meaningful difference in Sacramento.

Our community partners are the network of care that surrounds the individuals and families we serve. They fill critical gaps in housing, employment, legal support, mental health care, and community connection.

To our partners: we see your commitment. We value your collaboration. And we are honored to stand alongside you in this work.

Strong partnerships build stronger communities. Together, we are building a Sacramento where everyone has access to the support they need to thrive.

Sacramento, you continue to inspire us.

Every day, we witness the strength of this community -- in the clients who show up for treatment, in the families who advocate for their loved ones, in the volunteers who give their time, in the donors who give their resources, and in the partners who collaborate for greater impact.

Recovery happens in community. Healing happens in community. And Sacramento -- you are a community worth fighting for.

As we close out August and step into National Recovery Month, we want you to know: ACAC is proud to serve this city. And we are not going anywhere.

Together, Sacramento heals.

Sunday evening is one of the best times to invest a few minutes in preparing for the week ahead -- and in recovery, intentional planning can make a real difference.

Here are five ways to set yourself up for a strong week:

1. Plan your meals -- remove one barrier to healthy eating by thinking ahead
2. Set your intentions -- identify one specific goal you want to focus on this week
3. Schedule your self-care -- put it on the calendar so it actually happens
4. Connect with your support person -- send a check-in text or plan a call
5. Review your goals -- remind yourself why you are doing the work you are doing

Five minutes of Sunday planning can protect your peace all week long.

What does your Sunday prep routine look like? Share in the comments!

Today, ACAC pauses to express deep gratitude to every donor who has invested in the mission of Another Choice, Another Chance.

Your generosity is not abstract -- it is tangible. It shows up in:
The counselor who can focus on a client because the lights are on
The case manager who can make an extra call because the phone line is funded
The youth program that can run because someone believed it mattered
The outreach worker who can show up at a community event with resources in hand

Every dollar donated to ACAC is a vote for recovery, for second chances, and for a Sacramento where everyone has access to the support they need.

To our donors: you are not just supporting a nonprofit. You are participating in someone's recovery story. Thank you.

August has been a remarkable month.

We have shared resources, celebrated milestones, honored our team, spotlighted our community, educated about behavioral health, and most importantly -- we have shown up for you, Sacramento.

As this month draws to a close, take a moment to reflect:

What did you learn this month?
What are you most grateful for?
What habit or change are you most proud of building?
Who in your life has made a difference in your journey?
What do you want to carry into September?

Share your reflection in the comments. Your words are a reminder to all of us that growth is real, recovery is possible, and community makes us stronger.

Thank you for being part of this community. September is going to be extraordinary.

Recovery is not a solo act. It is a community achievement.

Research consistently shows that individuals with strong recovery support systems -- professional treatment, peer connections, and family involvement -- achieve significantly better long-term outcomes than those who try to navigate recovery alone.

Recovery support looks like:
A counselor who walks alongside you in your journey
A peer who has lived your experience and believes in your potential
A family member who learns to love without enabling
A community organization like ACAC that provides a network of care
A treatment program that treats the whole person, not just the diagnosis

You were not built to do life alone -- and recovery is no exception.

At ACAC, we are committed to being part of your support network for as long as you need us.

September is National Recovery Month -- and it is just around the corner!

National Recovery Month is observed every September to promote the societal benefits of prevention, treatment, and recovery support. It is a time to celebrate the millions of individuals living in recovery, honor those who have passed, and break the stigma that too often prevents people from seeking help.

At ACAC, we celebrate recovery every day -- but September gives us an opportunity to amplify that message across our entire community.

Stay tuned this week as we count down to Recovery Month with posts about hope, resilience, treatment, and the power of community support.

Recovery is possible. Recovery is real. And Sacramento, we are here for every step of the journey.

At ACAC, we believe that recovery support does not stop at our clinic doors -- it extends into the heart of our community.

Our outreach team actively engages Sacramento neighborhoods through:
Community health and resource fairs
Direct outreach to underserved populations
Education workshops on behavioral health and prevention
Resource distribution at community gathering points
Partnerships with schools, shelters, and faith organizations

Why? Because we know that many of the people who need help most will not walk through a door until someone meets them where they are.

ACAC goes to the community -- not just waiting for the community to come to us.

Share this post to help us spread awareness about the work being done right here in Sacramento.

Healthy habits do not appear overnight -- they are built, one intentional choice at a time.

Science tells us it takes an average of 66 days to form a new habit. That means every single day you choose a healthy behavior, you are literally rewiring your brain. Recovery is, at its core, the practice of building new neural pathways through new choices.

Here is how to start building healthy habits that stick:
Start small -- make the habit so easy you cannot say no
Anchor new habits to existing ones (example: meditate right after your morning coffee)
Track your progress -- what gets measured gets maintained
Celebrate each completion -- your brain responds to reward
Be patient and compassionate with yourself when you miss a day

You do not need a perfect system. You need a consistent practice.

A well-stocked coping skills toolkit is one of the most powerful things you can bring into your recovery journey.

Coping skills are not just things you do when life gets hard -- they are practices you build every day so they are available when you need them most.

Here are eight essential coping tools to add to your toolkit:

Breathing exercises -- activate your body's relaxation response
Journaling -- process emotions and track your growth
Physical movement -- shift your mood through your body
Creative expression -- art, music, and writing heal in ways words alone cannot
Talking to someone -- connection reduces isolation and fear
Mindfulness -- stay present instead of spiraling into anxiety
Time in nature -- restore calm and perspective
Gratitude practice -- anchor yourself in what is going right

Your toolkit is personal. Build it before you need it.
