July is Disability Pride Month, an annual celebration of disability identity and the anniversary of the Americans with Disability Act (ADA). This years theme, “The World Works Better With Us”, was selected by the Arc’s National Council of Self-Advocates (NCSA), and is representative of the fact that “when people with disabilities are included, respected, and supported, communities work better for everyone”. Here at Sac State, our Disability Access Center (Lassen Hall 1008) works collaboratively across campus to ensure students with disabilities have equal education access.

❤️💛💚 Today, we celebrate Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day. June 19, 1865 was the day enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas received word of the Emancipation Proclamation and their freedom. While it is a day to celebrate, it should also be noted that this occurred more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. It is a day to celebrate, reflect, and acknowledge the work that must still be done to create equity for marginalized people, especially the Black community, in the United States. Check our LInkTree for local Black owned businesses you may want to patronize, and the Sacramento Juneteenth Festival that takes place tonight and tomorrow!
