: PACE is growing across California, but access isn't evenly distributed.

California's PACE community has expanded significantly, yet many communities still do not have the same access to the model.

A new California Health Care Foundation explainer found that while PACE serves older adults across 28 California counties, 94% of the state's 124 PACE centers and alternative care sites are located in urban areas.

The report highlights an important part of California's PACE story: growth has been substantial, but geographic gaps remain, particularly in rural communities. Understanding where PACE is available, and where gaps persist, helps paint a fuller picture of the model's reach across California and where expansion is needed.

There's nothing quite like seeing the work firsthand! Yesterday, our CalPACE Senior Director of Policy, Karli Holkko, joined fellow advocates for a visit to the Center for Elders' Independence (CEI) Concord PACE Center and Choice in Aging's Mount Diablo Center to see services supporting older adults and individuals with disabilities in action.

Joining us were Brian Rutledge, Executive Director of the California Association for Adult Day Services; Kim Rothschild, Executive Director of the California Association of Public Authorities for IHSS; and Christina Mills, Executive Director of The California Association of Area Agencies on Aging.

A special thank you to Emily Hoshida, CEI Concord Center Director, and Debbie Toth, President & CEO of Choice in Aging, for welcoming us and leading the tours, as well as Uche Uwahemu, CEI's Director of Government Affairs, for joining the visit.

As advocates, we regularly collaborate to strengthen services and supports for older adults and people with disabilities, but we don't always have the opportunity to see this work firsthand. Getting out into the community helps connect our advocacy to the people, programs, and services at the heart of our work.

Thank you to everyone who made these visits possible!

While attending the National PACE Association Annual Conference in Denver, the CalPACE team is also taking the opportunity to connect with PACE organizations and see their work firsthand.

Today, we had the pleasure of visiting InnovAge Aurora PACE center, where we connected with Center Director Kelly Spotts and explored the center, including some beautiful diamond art on display!

It's always inspiring to see the creativity, connection, and community that are part of the PACE experience. These visits also provide valuable opportunities to learn from one another and strengthen relationships across the PACE community.

A big thank you to Kelly and the InnovAge team for welcoming us!

Last night, CalPACE members gathered in Denver for our Mile High Kickoff Mixer, bringing California’s PACE community together for an evening of connection, conversation, and celebration ahead of the National PACE Association conference.

It was wonderful to see familiar faces, make new connections, and start the week surrounded by people who share a commitment to advancing PACE.

A special thank you to Enable Dental and SilverRide for sponsoring the evening and helping make this gathering possible! We're looking forward to a great week of learning, collaboration, and connection with the broader PACE community.

Today, CalPACE recognizes Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

California is home to a rich diversity of Tribal Nations and Native communities whose cultures, knowledge, leadership, and connection to this land have endured for generations.

Today is an opportunity to honor Indigenous peoples, past, present, and future, and to recognize the strength, resilience, and contributions of Native communities across California.

At CalPACE, we remain committed to a future where every community can age with dignity, connection, and access to care that respects who they are and the communities they call home.

Mark your calendars! CalPACE’s annual Lobby Day returns to Sacramento on April 14, bringing California’s PACE community together at the State Capitol.

Lobby Day is an opportunity for CalPACE members to meet with policymakers, share the value and impact of PACE, and bring the experiences of PACE organizations and participants directly into conversations about the future of care for older adults in California.

With a new Administration and Legislature taking shape, next year’s Lobby Day will be an especially important opportunity for the PACE community to educate policymakers and ensure participant and provider voices are heard in Sacramento.

Save the date and plan to join us in Sacramento. More details to come!

A new resource takes a closer look at PACE in California.

California Health Care Foundation has released PACE in California: A Growing Model for Complex Care, an explainer examining how PACE works, who it serves, and how the model has grown across our state.

CalPACE was pleased to contribute data and insights to help inform the resource, which highlights both the momentum behind PACE and the opportunity that remains to expand access.

Today, more than 32,000 Californians are enrolled in PACE across 28 counties, with 42 PACE organizations operating 124 centers and alternative care sites statewide. We’re grateful to CHCF for helping bring greater visibility to a model designed to support the complex needs of older adults.
