This past week I found myself crying over things out of my control.

Chalking it up to menopause and my lack of hormones, I realized that I didn’t need to make excuses or fight against resistance. Plus crying helps lower cortisol, and in this stage of my life, I really need that literal flush!

Crying releases pent up pain and emotion. It helps process overwhelming emotions, prevents rumination, and helps you return to emotional baseline faster.

There are moments in life where we feel neither quite here nor there — some call it limbo, while others think of it as being ‘in between’.

I do believe that I’ve taken up temporary residence in the ‘in between’. Normally, I would muscle my way out to the other side, but now I’m allowing it to unfold organically.

Often called psychological distancing or healthy detachment, staying emotionally ‘in-between’ helps us by creating a buffer between an emotional trigger and our reaction. Practicing this emotional moderation offers several key benefits:

🔴 Stops Emotional Hijacking: It creates a gap between stimulus and response, giving our nervous system time to regulate. Instead of reacting impulsively to anger or fear, we can objectively observe what is happening.

🟠 Prevents Compassion Fatigue: By not absorbing everyone else's stress as our own, we can offer support without burning out. It allows us to care deeply without losing our own sense of self.

🟡 Improves Problem-Solving: Taking a step back helps reduce personal bias and intense emotional interference. This distance makes it much easier to assess situations logically and navigate conflicts effectively.

It’s easy to waste energy worrying about things out of your control, and it happens on a daily basis, especially when thinking about what other people think, world problems, and even the uncertainty of the future. 😕

Trying to manage the unmanageable is a one-way ticket to anxiety and burnout!

So how do you prevent this from happening❓

Focus on what you actually have agency over—your daily choices, how you respond to challenges, where you direct your attention —and let the rest of it go.

Here are some ways you can help find your inner peace:

☑️In your work
Develop transferable skills and nurture meaningful relationships instead of obsessing over decisions you can't influence.

☑️In your relationships
When a connection feels uncertain, focus on communicating clearly and consistently rather than trying to control people’s responses or trying to change behaviors.

☑️For personal growth
Focus on the things you genuinely control - your daily habits, self-talk, and personal decisions.
