MiVision MiVision specializes in surgical and medical eye care, proudly serving patients in Saginaw, Midland, Bay City, and the Thumb region.

We’re dedicated to delivering excellent care to our community. Dr. Mihlstin is a board-certified ophthalmologist who practices comprehensive ophthalmology. A native Michigander she was born and raised in Lapeer, Michigan. She completed her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering at Michigan Technological University in Houghton, MI. Her medical school at Wayne State University School of Medicine, internship at Sinai Grace Hospital and ophthalmology residency at Kresge Eye Institute all in Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Mihlstin has been serving the community of Saginaw since 2019. She is very passionate about preserving vision and focusing on providing the highest quality of care for her patients. Her exceptional training and extensive experience have made her a strong surgeon, specializing in the latest techniques in cataract and microinvasive glaucoma surgery. Dr. Mihlstin is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Anterior Segment and Cataract Refractive Surgery and the Saginaw County Medical Society. In her free time, Dr. Mihlstin enjoys spending time with family and friends, enjoying the outdoors, raising her four children and sharing a passion for aviation with her husband.

Not everyone interested in EVO ICL is ready for surgery, and that's an important conversation.

Before recommending EVO ICL, I want to understand your prescription, evaluate your eye health, and make sure you have realistic expectations about the procedure.

Does your vision briefly clear when you blink, only to become blurry again?

Your tear film helps create a smooth optical surface across your eye. When it becomes unstable, your vision may fluctuate between blinks.

This can be a sign of dry eye or another eye surface issue, but it isn't enough to confirm a diagnosis.

Over 45 and wondering if you're too old for EVO ICL? 👀

Good news: this year the FDA approved it for adults up to age 60. 🎉

But there are two things I go over with every patient in this age group before we decide anything.

1️⃣ Readers. EVO ICL sharpens your distance vision, but it won't stop that "my arms are too short" moment with a menu. 📖 You'll likely keep a pair of reading glasses handy for your phone, and for a lot of people that's a fine trade, because clear distance vision is what they really want back.

2️⃣ Your natural lens. Around the mid-40s, the lens inside your eye starts to age. It stiffens first, and years later it can turn cloudy. If a lens that's already starting to cloud is left in place, you'd see better today, but it would keep getting worse behind the ICL.

That's why, for some patients, the better answer is replacing the aging lens with one that corrects both near and far. ✨ Once the old lens is gone, it can't turn into a cataract down the road. A thin film can sometimes form behind the new lens years later, but that's a quick in-office laser treatment, not another surgery.

So how do I know which is right for you? 🔬 At your visit, I look at your natural lens directly and measure how it's handling light. The decision is based on a number, not a guess.

✅ Getting cloudy? I'll show you, and we'll talk about replacing it.

The second eye is the one that surprises people. 👀

Not because it hurts, but because by then you know exactly what's coming. Here's how the day goes, start to finish:

💧 Drops numb the eye and open the pupil. No needles, and most people take a small tablet to help them relax.

🔬 You lie back under a microscope. The bright light is what everyone remembers. You may see blurry shapes and feel some pressure, but patients usually describe it as pushing, not pain.

✨ The lens goes in folded through a small opening, then gently unfolds on its own. I tuck its corners behind the colored part of your eye.

⏱️ A few minutes later, eye #1 is done. Eye #2 is the exact same process, except now your brain knows the routine and really wants to flinch. That's why I talk you through every step, and a team member is right there if you'd like a hand to hold. 🤝

🩺 Afterward, you'll stay with us for about 30 minutes so we can check your eye pressure. It can run a little high temporarily, and a drop or a tiny release of fluid takes care of it quickly.

🚗 Then someone drives you home, you take a nap, and many people are seeing clearly by that evening or the next day.

Sharp eye pain when you first open your eyes in the morning? 👁️

One possible cause is recurrent corneal erosion—when the surface layer of your cornea doesn’t attach firmly and can pull loose as your eyelid opens.

It can happen after an old scratch or because of an underlying corneal condition, causing pain, tearing, light sensitivity, and blurry vision.

Treatment can help the surface heal and reduce repeat episodes. Sudden eye pain or changes in vision deserve a prompt eye exam.
