Feels like we’re in one of the most exciting times to be in ENT—and it’s not getting talked about enough.

We’re starting to see real momentum in areas that used to feel “out of reach”:

- AI actually helping with faster, more accurate diagnostics
- Advances in hearing restoration that go beyond just amplification
- Better surgical visualization and navigation than we had even a few years ago
- Targeted therapies changing outcomes in head & neck cancer
- And tools that are slowly making clinic + OR workflows more efficient

What’s interesting is that none of this replaces what we do—it actually elevates it.

Less time on the repetitive stuff,
More time on decision-making, procedures, and patient impact.

It feels like the ceiling of what we can offer patients is getting higher every year.

❓ Curious what others are seeing:

What’s one new technology, study, or shift that has actually made your day-to-day practice better recently?

Are you familiar with the proper use of nasal sprays? If not used correctly, nasal sprays often prove ineffective and may even cause nosebleeds.

The correct method is to "spray like V", which means slightly outward, toward the inside corner of the eye, on the same side.

The World Allergy Organization just published an article recommending that all diphenhydramine (ie. Benadryl) products be pulled off the market.

Diphenhydramine is considered a "dirty" drug due to its many side effects, and with many other safer alternatives out there, it may be time to say goodbye.

Did you know that even mild hearing loss can increase the risk of dementia? Research shows a strong link between hearing health and brain function.

Hearing loss can strain cognitive resources, leading to increased mental fatigue and social isolation, which are both risk factors for cognitive decline.

If you or a loved one are noticing any signs of hearing loss, it may be more important than ever to get it checked. Protecting your hearing could also mean protecting your mind!

🌬️ Dealing with a Stuffy Nose? Beware of Rhinitis Medicamentosa!

Did you know that overusing nasal decongestant sprays can lead to something called rhinitis medicamentosa (RM)? 😷 It’s a condition where your nasal congestion gets worse instead of better when you rely on these sprays for too long. Here’s what you need to know:

🚨 What causes it?
Overuse of nasal sprays (like oxymetazoline/Afrin or phenylephrine) for more than 3 days can cause your nasal tissues to swell back up after the medication wears off—leaving you MORE congested!

🤧 Symptoms include:
• Persistent nasal stuffiness
• Need for frequent spray use to "clear" the nose
• Feeling like you can't breathe through your nose without the spray

💡 How to avoid it?
• Use decongestant sprays only for a short time (no more than 3 days)
• Try alternative treatments for nasal congestion, like saline sprays and rinses, intranasal steroid sprays or antihistamines.

If you think you're experiencing RM, talk to a healthcare professional for guidance on how to break the cycle. Stay informed and breathe easier! 🌿

The Link Between Sinus Infections and Tooth Pain.

Many people don’t realize that sinus infections can cause tooth pain, especially in the upper teeth. 🦷 The roots of these teeth are close to the sinuses, and inflammation or pressure from a sinus infection can trigger discomfort that feels like a dental issue. Your ENT specialist 👂👃👅 can help determine if the pain you’re experiencing is sinus-related rather than a tooth problem.
