💜MEET GARY💜

“Hello, my name is Gary, and my story begins at a very young age. I grew up in a broken home and experienced a great deal of childhood trauma. By the age of 13, I had already started drinking and smoking ma*****na. What began as a way to escape eventually turned into a full-blown addiction by the time I was 20 years old. For more than 30 years, I spent my life running from my problems instead of facing them.
Eventually, I reached a point where I simply had enough. I made the decision to enter a 30 day treatment program in Morgantown, and that decision ultimately led me to Agape. I’ll be honest, in the beginning, I was unsure of myself and even scared. But little by little, I started to buy into the process. The more effort I put into my recovery, the more my life began to change for the better.
Through recovery, I learned how to love myself again and rebuild the self esteem I had lost over the years. I began repairing relationships with my family, found a sponsor, worked the steps, and started doing what I could to help others who were struggling like I once was. My faith, recovery program, and the support of the staff around me helped me discover a new way of living.
Because of hard work, dedication, and the support I received, I was blessed with the opportunity to gain employment at the very place that helped me get back on my feet. This journey has not been easy, but it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Today, I have goals, purpose, and aspirations I never thought were possible. In July, I will be attending Camp Dawson to earn my heavy equipment operator certification, and I hope to continue building a stable and meaningful career.
Recovery gave me more than sobriety, it gave me hope, purpose, and a second chance at life. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that no matter how far gone you think you are, change is possible when you’re willing to ask for help, trust the process, and keep moving forward one day at a time.”

Gary is an inspiration and we are so so blessed to have him. 💜

🧡💜Meet Sadie!!! 💜🧡

“I am a proud West Virginia native. I grew up in South Charleston and graduated from South Charleston High School in 2021. Following this, I enrolled at West Virginia University as a History major, then a Business major, then finally found my passion in Mental Health and Addiction Studies. Throughout my life I have struggled heavily with depression and mental illness, which often manifested in ugly ways. Despite being blessed with an amazing family and upbringing, it felt like I always carried a heavy blanket on my shoulders that prevented me from feeling like I belonged or deserved good things. Over time this feeling turned into self hatred and followed me into every corner of my life. In college I began self-injuring and using alcohol as a means to cope with myself. Rather than face my internal suffering, I chose to avoid it any way I could. In 2023, I began a student worker position at the WVU Collegiate Recovery Program. Gradually, I began connecting with other students and sharing my experience with mental health as well as getting involved with the community by leading groups, organizing sober gatherings, and volunteering my time at recovery programs and organizations. Slowly but surely I got more comfortable talking about how I was feeling instead of pushing it down, alongside helping others in their own journeys. I started to treat myself like someone I loved, began changing my habits and prioritizing my wellbeing. Upon graduating from WVU in 2025, I immediately jumped into my position at Recover with Agape as a supportive counselor. I treat my clients with the same care that I learned to give myself over time, and I feel passionately that we can all forgive ourselves and get better through one another. I am truly blessed to be a part of something as special as this program and that I can look forward to going to work every day. Outside of work, I enjoy walking my dog Teddy, reading mystery novels, and going to group fitness classes. 🧡💜”

We are soooo grateful to have Sadie on our team💜

We don’t miss the win.
We get impatient with the timeline.

God’s timing isn’t late—and it’s never random.

Stay faithful in the work. Stay disciplined in the waiting.

Don’t let the when distract you from what you’re called to do. 🧡💜
