Some of the most serious eye conditions damage your vision long before you'd notice a symptom. That's where OCT imaging comes in.

OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) uses light waves to capture a detailed, layer-by-layer map of your retina β€” revealing structural changes from glaucoma, macular degeneration, or diabetic retinopathy years before they'd otherwise cause noticeable vision problems. The scan itself is quick, painless, and doesn't usually require dilation.

It's one of the reasons routine eye exams matter, even when your vision feels totally fine.

πŸ“… Curious whether OCT imaging is part of your next exam? Schedule an appointment with our team.

Kids don't usually announce "I think I need glasses" β€” they just assume their blurry world is normal.

Watch for: sitting close to the TV, squinting, frequent eye rubbing, head tilting, headaches after reading, or losing their place while reading. These can also show up as school struggles β€” trouble concentrating, copying from the board, or being labeled "easily distracted" when it's really a vision issue.

Younger kids especially may only show physical signs, since they don't have the words to describe blurry vision.

πŸ“… Noticing any of these signs? Schedule a comprehensive eye exam with our team.

Glasses or contacts? For most patients, it's not really either/or.

Glasses mean no direct contact with your eye and lower upkeep. Contacts mean an unobstructed field of vision, great for sports and active lifestyles. Plenty of patients do both β€” contacts most days, glasses for mornings, late nights, or when their eyes feel tired.

The right fit depends on your eyes, your routine, and your lifestyle β€” not a universal "better" option.

πŸ“… Not sure which is right for you? Schedule an appointment with our team.

If you're on glaucoma eye drops, consistency isn't optional β€” it's the entire treatment.

Here's the tricky part: you won't feel a difference when you skip a dose, but your eye pressure can still creep back up, undoing the protection your drops are meant to provide. Anchoring drops to an existing habit (brushing your teeth, morning coffee), using phone reminders, and asking about combination drops if you're juggling multiple bottles can all help.

If cost or difficulty applying the drops is the real barrier, tell us β€” there's almost always a workable solution.

Itchy or gritty? That one word can help you tell dry eye apart from allergies.

Itching, sneezing, and a stuffy nose usually point to allergies. A gritty, sandy feeling that builds through the day (especially with screen use) points more toward dry eye. The tricky part: having one can make you more prone to the other, and the wrong treatment (like antihistamine drops for true dry eye) can actually make things worse.

If over-the-counter drops aren't helping, it's worth getting a real answer instead of guessing.

πŸ“… Not sure which one you're dealing with? Schedule an evaluation with our team.

Itchy, watery, red eyes every year like clockwork? Welcome to Fox Valley allergy season.

Between ragweed, mold, and grass and tree pollen, our region has more than one allergy peak β€” and eye allergies can look a lot like dry eye or infection, which is why the right treatment depends on knowing which one you're actually dealing with. (Hint: allergies itch, dry eye feels gritty, infections usually start in one eye.)

Simple steps like cold compresses, antihistamine drops, and switching to daily contacts during allergy season can help β€” but if drops aren't cutting it, we can help pinpoint what's going on.

πŸ“… Struggling with itchy, watery eyes this season? Schedule an appointment with our team.

Ever wonder why an eye visit sometimes gets billed to a different insurance than you expected?

Vision insurance (like VSP or EyeMed) typically covers routine care β€” your annual exam and an allowance toward glasses or contacts. Medical insurance covers diagnosing or treating an actual eye condition, like glaucoma, dry eye disease, or diabetic eye changes. Some visits involve both, if a routine exam turns up something that needs medical attention.

Bring both cards if you have them β€” our billing team will sort out what applies.

πŸ“… Questions about your coverage before your visit? Contact our office β€” we're happy to help.

His research on pediatric glaucoma earned the Best Pediatric Glaucoma Paper Award at the 2023 AAPOS Annual Meeting.

He believes every patient deserves to understand their condition and be an active part of their own care β€” exactly the kind of doctor we're proud to have on our team.

Choosing sunglasses by style alone? Here's what actually matters for your eye health.

Cumulative UV exposure is linked to cataracts, macular degeneration, and other eye conditions β€” and dark lenses without real UV protection can actually be worse than no sunglasses at all, since your pupils dilate and let in more unfiltered light. Look for 100% UVA/UVB protection (UV400), and don't skip this for kids β€” their eyes are even more vulnerable to UV damage than adults'.

Bonus: if you wear glasses, prescription sunglasses mean you don't have to choose between seeing clearly and protecting your eyes.
