Been more active lately and definitely feeling it afterward? You’re probably not the only one 😅

This time of year, many people become a lot more active without fully realizing it. Longer walks, yard work, golf, bike rides, outdoor projects, spring cleaning…it adds up quickly after a long winter.

And when the body goes from winter routines to nonstop movement, it’s common to feel more stiff, sore, fatigued, or rundown than usual!

Recovery becomes just as important as the movement itself.

Along with sleep, hydration, and movement, nutrition can also help the body recover after increased physical stress.

A few foods that may help support recovery this time of year:

🫐 Berries: Rich in antioxidants that help the body respond to physical stress.

🐟 Salmon: Contains omega-3 fatty acids that have been studied for their role in joint and muscle health.

🥬 Leafy greens: Provide magnesium and other nutrients involved in normal muscle function.

🍍 Pineapple: Contains bromelain, a natural enzyme often associated with post-activity recovery.

🫚 Ginger: Has been studied for its potential role in supporting joint comfort and muscle recovery.

🍒 Tart cherries: Commonly used to help with muscle soreness after exercise.

🍌 Bananas: Provide potassium and other nutrients involved in muscle function and hydration.

💧 Water: One of the biggest ones! As temperatures warm up and activity increases, dehydration can contribute to fatigue, headaches, muscle cramps, and tightness.

Movement is one of the best things you can do for your body…but recovery matters too 😊

Sometimes the body just needs a little extra support while adjusting to the pace of the season.

If you’ve been feeling a little more sore or worn down lately, your body may just be adjusting to the increase in activity that tends to come with this time of year!

Has anyone else been dealing with more headaches or sinus pressure lately? 😅

With the weather shifting back and forth so much lately, many people have been noticing more neck and shoulder tightness, congestion, fatigue, sinus pressure, and dull headaches that seem to last longer than usual.

And it’s not always just allergies.

Stress, posture, screen time, poor sleep, muscle tightness, and even rapid weather changes can all affect how your body feels this time of year.

One thing we look at closely is how stiffness and tension in the neck and upper back may be contributing to that pressure or discomfort. A lot of times, people don’t even realize how restricted things have gradually become until the headaches start showing up more often.

Simple things like staying hydrated, moving regularly, stretching, improving posture, and reducing physical stress can sometimes make a bigger difference than people expect.

Chiropractic care focuses on helping the body move and function more comfortably overall, especially when tension and stress start adding up.

If headaches, sinus pressure, or neck tension have been more noticeable lately, feel free to mention it at your next visit!

And if you’ve never been to Total Body before, your first consultation is always complimentary. We’re open until 5 today!

With the weather shifting back and forth this week, many people have been noticing stiff or “stuck” necks!

If that sounds familiar, it could be something called torticollis.

Torticollis (sometimes referred to as “wry neck”) happens when the muscles in the neck tighten or spasm, making it harder to turn your head or move normally.

It often comes on suddenly and can be linked to things like:
• Sleeping in an awkward position or on a pillow that doesn’t fully support your neck
• Muscle strain from activity, workouts, or even just holding tension throughout the day
• Posture habits over time, especially with phones or computer use
• Minor irritation in the neck that builds up and shows up all at once

A lot of times, there isn’t one clear cause...you just notice something isn’t moving the way it should.

With weather like this, we tend to see it a little more often! Rapid changes in temperature and barometric pressure can make muscles and joints feel tighter, especially in the neck and shoulders.

You might notice:
• Stiffness or soreness, often on one side
• Difficulty turning or tilting your head
• Your head sitting slightly off-center
• A pulling or tight feeling with movement

In many cases, this improves pretty quickly with the right support!

If this happens, start with gentle movement instead of forcing it! Slow, controlled motion can help keep the muscles from tightening further.

Supporting normal movement early, whether through light stretching or chiropractic care, can help things settle before the body starts compensating.

If your neck hasn’t been moving like it normally does, feel free to mention it at your next visit. We’re always happy to help you better understand what your body might be experiencing!

Did you know that spending just 5–20 minutes interacting with a dog can help lower cortisol levels (your body’s primary stress hormone), even if the dog isn’t your own?!

It's true! Time with dogs has also been shown to boost mood, improve focus, and support overall mental clarity, especially in children.

And it goes both ways! Research from the Center for Human-Animal Interaction at Virginia Commonwealth University found that just a few minutes of petting and attention can increase oxytocin (the “feel-good” hormone) in both humans and dogs, while also helping reduce heart rate and blood pressure.

So whether it’s your own dog or one you pass by during the day, those small moments can make more of a difference than you might think!

Nick has been handling our social media since 2021, so if you follow us, you’ve seen his work! He just launched his own small business, Mindful Media 🎉

He puts a lot of care into what we share and has been very consistent over the years.

He’s doing a small giveaway to celebrate, so we wanted to share it! Not a bad excuse for a free beanie!

April showers bring…free beanies?!

To celebrate the launch of the Mindful Media website, and all the support these have already received, I’m giving away 15 beanies, free of charge!

No one really tells you how strange it can be to build something from scratch. To take an idea that didn’t exist and slowly turn it into something real. Something people can actually see, hold, and be a part of.

I’ve found myself trying to get things right for other people while still figuring parts of it out as I go. Some days it clicks. Other days it doesn’t, but I keep showing up anyway.

And then every once in a while, people show up for you.

And you feel it.

So this felt like a small way to say thank you 🥰

If you want one, here’s how to enter:

1️⃣ Follow Mindful Media
2️⃣ Like this post
3️⃣ Comment someone you appreciate!

I’ll pick 15 people later this week and reach out via DM!

If you want to check out the site, click “See Details” below or visit: mindfulmediastories.com

And if you don’t feel like waiting, I’ve still got a few left for $5! Just send me a message, and I’ll set one aside for you 😊

I appreciate you being here 🤍

Swimming is one of the most effective low-impact exercises you can do, and one of the few that strengthens your body without adding extra stress!

Because water supports about 80–90% of your body weight, your joints get a break while your muscles and heart still get to work. You’re building strength, improving endurance, and moving more freely at the same time.

It also supports circulation in a unique way. The natural pressure from the water helps move blood back to the heart more efficiently, supporting cardiovascular health over time.

Regular swimming has been linked to:
• Lower blood pressure
• Improved cholesterol levels
• Increased lung capacity
• Reduced joint pain and stiffness
• Improved mood and lower stress

Some studies have even shown that people who swim regularly have a lower risk of early mortality compared to those who are inactive.

For anyone recovering from injury, managing chronic pain, or just looking for a sustainable way to stay active, this is one of the best ways to move!

And for a lot of people, it’s one of the few workouts that leaves you feeling better than when you started.

Allergies weighing you down this spring? 🤧

With the temperatures having been all over the place lately, it’s no surprise if you’ve been dealing with more congestion, sinus pressure, or even headaches this week. A lot of people have been feeling it.

When your spine and nervous system are properly aligned, your body is better able to adjust to those changes and respond to allergens. Chiropractic care focuses on supporting how your body functions overall, so you’re not just chasing temporary relief but actually giving your body what it needs to feel and function better.

In some cases, we may also recommend supportive therapies like massage or nutritional guidance to help your body reset and feel its best.

If you’ve been feeling a little off lately, you’re not alone. We’re here to help you breathe easier and get back to your day feeling more like yourself.

Stop in for your complimentary consultation. We’re open until 7 today!

Seasonal weather shifts can affect more than the forecast…many people notice increased sinus pressure, headaches, or occasional dizziness when temperatures and barometric pressure change quickly. These shifts can irritate the sinuses and inner ear, and nearby muscles in the face, neck, and shoulders can tighten too.

With the weather moving back and forth this week, it’s common to feel pressure behind the eyes or across the forehead!

Simple things like staying well hydrated, gentle movement, and keeping the neck and upper spine mobile can help the body adapt more comfortably during these transitions.

If you have been noticing symptoms like these lately, feel free to mention it at your next visit!

For anyone new to Total Body Health Center, consultations are always complimentary, and we are happy to help you better understand what your body may be experiencing.

Stress doesn’t just affect how we think. It affects how the body functions too.

You may feel constantly “on.” Even when the day is over, the body can still feel tense, alert, or unable to fully relax.

Between work, constant notifications, and the pace of everyday life, the nervous system can spend more time in a stress response than it was designed to.

Add losing an hour of sleep from Daylight Savings today, and it’s no surprise many people are feeling a little more tired and overstimulated than usual!

Over time the body can stay in “fight-or-flight” mode. Hormones like cortisol and adrenaline remain elevated. These hormones help us respond to danger, but when they stay high for too long they can begin to wear the body down.

That stress often shows up physically. Tight muscles in the neck and shoulders, headaches, poor sleep, fatigue, digestive issues, and brain fog are all common signs the body has been under ongoing tension.

Helping the body come out of that stress response is often the first step toward feeling better. Gentle movement, stretching, massage therapy, and chiropractic care can help release built-up tension and give the body a chance to relax and recover.

If your brain has been feeling like this image lately, you’re definitely not the only one!
