For many years, Ken lived in a large institutional setting, largely separated from community life. Everything changed when the deinstitutionalization movement opened the door for him to move into the community.

Today, Ken’s life is filled with the freedom, independence, and purpose he has always deserved. He enjoys strong, supportive relationships with his girlfriend of more than 40 years, his sisters, and his church community, and fills his days with word puzzles, caring for his home, and going on walks.

Ken’s life was transformed by becoming part of his community, and we’re proud to support him — and others like him — in having the opportunity to live well.

Starting something new is exciting — and it's okay to feel a little nervous too.

We take the transition into community living one step at a time. We work closely with each person and their family to make the move feel comfortable and welcoming. New residents settle into routines, make their space their own, and get to know roommates who often become lifelong friends.

We love watching each person we support grow, gain confidence, and find a place where they truly belong.
